I took out a trial subscription to Readly recently and TBH it made me realise why magazines are going bust all over the place. Most of them are pretty dire but one made me smile. It's "an exclusive" to Readly so a massive prize for subscribers. Here it is!

Not fancy? How about this instead?

I'm surprised people still buy magazines.......

Due to Covid and having a toddler (hence little me-time), I changed my club lloyds reward from cinema tickets to magazine subscriptions. I got Top Gear magazine because the kid likes cars. Good pictures for the kid to flick through. But totally pointless as a reading experience, there's an advert every 2-3 pages, it should be a free magazine.

But then, I'm also surprised that people still watch over-the-air TV with adverts in the middle of a program.

advert breaks can be useful to go and make a cup of tea or coffee or fetch a beer, or catch up on emails & social media if you are into that sort of stuff (I am not).
 
i regularly get given a ton of HIFI mags from a friend of mine he gets about 3x a month i really enjoy them i used to get national geo also from friend and new scientist but covid has stopped that as they are elderly but they are storing them up for me.
 
I remember going to a local market and buying magazines for 20p each - Auto-Italia, New Scientist, Classic Bike, Classic Car, Back Street Heroes. I still have boxes of them in the spare room, must start reading them again.
 
We used to get a stall on the market that sold a month or two old magazines at a quid each or three for £2.50
Wouldn't buy a full price one these days at fiver a go, repeats themselves after 12-18 months anyway

Best bet is see if your local library does free online magazines.
Mine does and read AP every week and Digital Camera monthly
Amazon Prime (if you have it) also do magazines to download, sometimes get good ones from abroad on there.

There was a stall like that in the Leather Lane market years ago. Good place to spend a lunch hour. ;)
 
I dislike reading a screen and would far rather read a paper magazine.

I still buy photography magazines, but not regularly, (BJP, Black and White Photography and Studies in Photography) as I find photographs are so much more satisfying to look at on paper than on a screen.
 
I have a digital subscription to MCN, Ride and Bike magazines.
The only subscription I have to an old-fashioned paper magazine is to Adventure Bike Rider, and I’ll go digital-only when the electronic version improves.

All three of those are on Readly. I’ve had a subscription for Readly for three years and regularly read a dozen mags a month. They also now have some newspapers on there too. For under a tenner a month it is excellent value
 
I like a magazine so I can read in the bath without worrying about dropping it

I like short articles too as I normally have a nap in the bath and long articles don't get finished before I nod off :D

That said, the only mag I get is due to Association membership and without it being part of that I wouldn't buy one

Agree - Makes me think, with all these people not buying mags... what do they do on the loo?

Are they PDF scans of the pages or something a bit more sophisticated?

I’ll definitely have a look at that. Hopefully I’ll find it better than Apple News, which I found lacking.
