What you think? could do with some work with the text... but pretty pleased, check my site and see if it works well with it?

The problem is that the text is kinda hard to read, especially at a glance. A good design should always be easily readable at a glance. The reason your text isn't very easily readable is because of the circular path it's following, the very thin black border around it (so the white of the lettering is almost merging with the white background), and because block capitals are harder to read than lower case, due to the fact that block capitals are all roughly square, which interferes with our ability to read letters based in their shapes. I studied graphic design, and avoiding block capitals was one of the first things we were encouraged to do. Sure, they work in some circumstances, but for a design like this, they kinda don't.

Don't always feel like you have to make everything into one compact design, with all the elements on top of each other. You can easily place the text alongside the image in some other way.
 
I must say I think the logo does just what it is supposed to do. Even with my failing eyesight I can see exactly what it is saying. well done

Would you think to re-do the lettering lowercase? I found rendering the lettering alot harder than the design itself... like aligning it with the circular path..
 
It's not just the uppercase though, the path is part of the problem.

To be brutally honest, the truth is that making text follow a path like that generally just looks amateur. I'm sorry to say that, as I don't wish to hurt your feelings, but I think it's best to be totally honest.

Take a look at photography manufacturers and high street shops - they tend to have incredibly simple logos. When it comes to photography, let the photos themselves do the talking, and stick to minimalist design for the presentation. That way, the photos will always take centre stage.
 
The text isn't quite on the same arc as the 'lens'. eg the top of the "J" is just about touching the outside but the "L" is a different distance from it. This goes for both the upper and lower text.

Well this is the first time ive touched illustrator so whatever you have to say is fine, you reckon moving the text from the lens and putting the writing above and below would work better?

Yeah I know that but I just thought id throw it up as it was just to see what people thought of it as a 'rough design'
 
As a concept, you could make something of it.

In its present form, it cannot be used as a logo. A logo must be simple, scaleable, recognisable, and convey something of what the business is about.

Yours does the latter, but nothing else.

If you're serious about having a logo, get one made. There are some affordable options online. If it's just for fun and not commercial in any way, that's fine. No harm done.

i wonder how many non photographers would see that as a lens, or a washing machine ;)
