Hi all,
I have just been through/am still going through a really crap point in my life.
I'm not going to talk about it because it is still really hard for me to do so without feeling like I am falling apart.

But....
Out of what I can only describe as my life falling apart, something amazing happened.
About 2 weeks ago I decided to sell all of my photography equipment (most of it was sold on here) because I didn't feel like I could be bother after everything that had happened.

Today, I went out for dinner with a few friends that really know nothing about photography other that looking at my photos and helping to support my hobby (models/ideas/advice).

Before dinner, one of them said to me "we know you have sold your gear and we understand your reasons, but we have clubbed together and want you to have this in case you ever change your mind".

He handed me a box, just bigger than a shoe box and when I opened it, it was a brand new Samsung GX20.

I was stunned, I couldn't say a word for about an hour.

I wanted to share this because I really felt like nothing good would ever happen again, then today happened!

Really nice to hear things like that.
You sound like you have a good bunch of friends.

There are still a few good people left in the world
Faith in humanity restored

No matter how bad **** gets man, there's always people out there worse off than you and there are always people out there that care. That goes for everyone.

*hugs*

They really are a amazing bunch of friends....
When I finaly managed to get some words out, the only thing I could think to do was make a joke...

"You could have at least done your homework and got me a canon"

They burst out laughing but I did get a chocolate cake thrown at me!

That's a wonderful gesture :)

I pray and hope that things pick-up for you.

Cheers for the comments all.
I don't know as I will use the camera just yet as I'm not sure what I would want to take photos of, but it's nice to know I can if I want to.

wow, you have some really great friends. Did you end up paying for dinner, and was the dinner at the ritz? ;)

I hope things pick up for you and you get out there and remember why you started photographer before. Say yes to one thing a week that you would normally say no too.

Oh and goto http://www.zarias.com/?p=284 and watch the video as it really helped me think about a few things.

Cheers for that.
I will check out the link when I'm not so tired

They wouldn't let me get dinner but they didn't put up a fight when I got a round of drinks in.

Going through tough times is good sometimes - you get to find out what is really important in life and you find out about the people who are important to and who you are important to.

Work through your problems, you will solve them, or adapt to them… It just takes some time.
Remember

Canon eos 1dmk3s = £5000

Being given a camera by friends who care = priceless:D

What a fantastic gesture, and it certainly does a little to restore faith in humanity!

think a home made photo thank you card should be heading your friends way.

good to hear that you have some people around you that you can all real friends

You're a lucky man to have friends like that Bill.

Count your blessings and put that camera to work.

All my "Pals" do is steal my coffee.

Do a fun photo shoot with your great pals.

and then you will all have something to remember.

When life’s at its worse and you’re at the bottom of a dark pit, it's then that we tend to find out who our true friends are the ones that have unconditional love, trying to show us the way towards the light. Sounds like you have a few good guides around you.

Life can be extremely hard at times but it always seems to come around without going through the hard times you can't truly enjoy the good times that are on your way.

Really nice gesture from your mates Bill and I hope things turn around for you soon. Through the bad patches and low points of my life it's always been my close friends that have helped me hold things together and see some sort of perspective on things.

That's brilliant.
Having gone through a very bad patch myself over the past couple of years. I have found photography has help my a lot.
Stick with it, it does get better.

Seems to be proof that you're an alright person with a bunch of decent friends.

Once you're back on your feet, can I borrow them? My friends are rubbish.

Sincerely - good luck with everything - I look forward to seeing the results.

As long as you have friends like that in your life everything else will sort itself out over time. Best of luck!

Your very lucky to have really good friends, they obviously care a lot about you, with mates like that covering your back I'm sure things will soon work out for the better. Wayne

Just looked to see what a gx20 is. I was expecting a little compact, which would have been great but that camera is schweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Big :clap::clap: to your friends.

I don't know if my family would think of doing this for me, let alone my friends! You have some great friends there, they obviously treasure your friendship!

I hope you get through this tough time okay. Like it's already been said, everyone goes through it at some point, you just need to stay strong and focus on something positive! x

Thank you all for your comments folks.
I really really really do appreciate the time you have taken.

I have always known they are a good bunch, I guess I didn't know how good.
I have asked them all round this weekend for some food and a few beers and I am going to save the first photo on the new camera for a group shot.

I know :D
I couldn'f believe it when I read the manual (yes, a bloke that will read the manual :cuckoo: ).

And on top of all of that , apparently it is compatible with some pentax lenses

Blimey you have got some generous friends. Congrats.

I had a terrible time about 7 years ago, gf broke up with me and moved out, I had to sell the flat I loved and buy a smaller one and my/our cat was run over. Good things do happen again though and im now with another gf that im head over heels about, we have a 3 bed home, a cat and a dog and the best of all a 9 month old daughter.

Good times do come back, im sure this is the start of yours.

I think I need to be introduced to these friends of yours :)

Good to see their are still good people in the UK, just reading BBC news is enough to depress you now what with all the stabbings etc.
Nice piece of kit too!

The lengths some people will go to for a free upgrade........

..... only joking :exit:

Chuffed you got a new camera as I was feeling a bit awful for buying the battery grip knowing that you didn't really want to sell it :)

That's amazing, what a brilliat group of friends you have.
