I just had a go at making the Grid spot. Instructions are here
it was pretty easy to put together and here is the result. I couldnt find anything all that good so the picture is rubbish but here we go.

I made one as well from black drinking straws, the results are pretty impressive for a Bue Peter piece of kit.

Here's one of my first attempts at a pic with it.

I grabbed my girlfriend and too a quick picture using the 0.5" grid spot I made. Im a lot happier with this one :)

yep going to try this both card and mayve straws. The wife is good at crafty things so she may even create it for me :naughty:

Too dark, unless your girlfriend is asian the skin tone is too dark. Needs a bit of brightening and possibly a bit more contrast!

she is Italian so slightly olive skin i'll have a play

Im almost too scared to ask another question on the main forum now, but which velcro is best to attach to the sides of the flash, hooks or fuzz?

Any better?

Better for me, but perhaps just gone a bit too bright.

I would put the fuzz on the flash.

I put the fuzz on the flash as well.

I cut my straws to 5cm lengths and made the housing from that thick corrugated black cardboard you get your photos packaged in when you order them from various online labs. The grid is good fun, the circle is nice and defined with a lovely feathered edge.

couldnt you just make a small snoot and pack the inside with straws?

Yip, you could do that, some 'real' snoots have a honeycomb grid at the narrow end.

The length of the straws controls the size or tightness of the circle so it is that that is important rather than the length of the housing they are in.

I made sure there was a gap of a couple of centimetres between my straws and the flash itself so there was no danger of the straws melting onto the flash.
