Oh go on.....

ha ha, we have a no photography and video policy but it clearly states this at the front doors and on a couple of signs.
i disagree with this to an extent, having to go up to someone when they are the only people in the pool and ask them to not take pictures is pretty bad, especially when they are over here on holiday!
despite my incredulousness (I have no idea if that is a word)
Then you will also know that incidents are lower now than they were 100 years ago, and that most cases of abuse do not happen in a public place, or by a stranger.
I am saying that your statement, by someone who works in child protection, fuels the fires that suggest a parent taking photos of their kids at a pool is reason enough to suspect them.
I am sure you have dealt with cases at a swimming pool, but if you were to list where abuse takes place it would be a long way down the list.
Hi Neil. It was in Romsey.

That's not what I am saying, however I just feel there are times when it is more sensible just not to insist on your rights to do something. There are good reasons why people are squeamish about photography at pools, which is a situation caused by a very small but arguably significant minority.
Undoubtedly, however it is just as important as the abuses that are at the top of the list.
I'm going to call you on this though. A quick google of 'child abuse in public swimming pools' turned up exactly no cases. Not even the daily mail. I know you disagree but most pool staff are vigilant and they are public and busy places, not really ideal for that sort of activity

First story out of google with 'Peeping tom'
Not quite taking pictures, but just illustrates what could happen.
Next step is to ban all males who intend to swin alone - why else would they want to swim....?![]()

I beg to differ. Indecent images of children are illegal the world over and google do a pretty good job (as far as is possible) to ensure they are blocked from their search engines.
You'd be surprised at what can be classed as CP, for some merely having pictures of children, even your own nieces is enough, especially if your a middle aged single man.
I've been through this myself when taking pictures at my nieces request, of her in the local park, suffice to say the off duty copper concerned got told where to go and when he threatened me with a raid got told to go ahead and knock himself out wasting police time.
My little brother sadly didn't get out of things so lightly.
What you have to realise is the mentality of these people will not allow them to accept anything that does not agree with their initial assessment.
My brother was a junkie, he did a deal on behalf of some other guys who then refused to pay him, he lent on them and found himself falsely accused of flashing one of the guys daughter.
Before it was reported to the police it went all round our town and the aggro started, the police arrested him.
The police completely cleared him not least because on the day of the offence he was filmed by and undercover unit staking out the dealers he bought from, so he wasn't even in our town on the day of the supposed offence.
Even though this was told to the public, they didn't let up, he was beaten by two guys with baseball bats so hard his blood was on the ceiling of his hall !!, he was constantly threatened and told he would be killed, whilst staying at my parents for his safety his flat was broken into and set on fire, destroying his lounge completely.
He spent the last year of his life, with it under constant threat, the police did nothing, arrested no one and finally after nearly two years of this he killed himself because he they where now threatening to harm his own daughter and he just couldn't take it any more.
That was 8 yrs ago, I raised his daughter who is now 21, but misses her dad every day...
So false accusations are extremely serious in my book and I can understand the man walking away from his hobby rather than face what this lot are like around here.
I've been saying for a long time that the Daily Mail are not the most reliable source of anything at all.
.......

actually just snotted my drink through my nose clicking on that.

it's yet another example of the stupid hysteria which is taking over the country.
You just don't get this sort of behaviour abroad.
Parents in other countries are still allowed to take photos of their own children without worrying about whether the photo processor will deem something obscene.
If that was a dig at my knowledge on the subject, I have worked in child protection for the last eleven years. I have dealt with a number of incidents of abusive behaviour at swimming pools.
Edited to add: as a child protection social worker.

he was accused of improper behaviour for taking pictures of his own kids by a paraniod parent and subsequently suffered a torrent of abusive messages and finger pointing in public.

what authority do people have to make those kind of allegations...
i suspect there may have been other children in the area..??
this makes beach photography difficult...but in the park not so hard if you are seen to be setting up a posed shot..
i think the whole story sounds drastic from both sides...
To which the answer is "No, dear, they're far too ugly - please move them somewhere out of sight please, so I can take photos of MY children"
It's Chillimonster, and he actually posted about it in his 365 thread yesterday/today
he's a great guy who's been around the forums for ages; loves his photography, is very good at it, and changes his kit nearly as much as Gingerweasel.....

I too am sorry for you loss, very tragic situation.
Too date I have had no trouble with taking pictures out side in public venues. I normally get mistaken for being a paparazzi ! !
I would not hold back from confronting some one who is brave enough to accuse me of taking photos.

I don't see why it has to be a secret who it is? It's Chillimonster, and he actually posted about it in his 365 thread yesterday/today - he's a great guy who's been around the forums for ages; loves his photography, is very good at it, and changes his kit nearly as much as Gingerweasel.....
It's an absolute travesty that b'stard ignorant people should be able to make others feel so bad that they chuck one of the things they love most....
Come back, Chilli.... buy anything (apart from a Canon) and get going again...![]()
Ouch! I was trying to keep it anonymous as he's obviously suffered a lot and probably just wants to be left alone at the moment. I'm starting to regret starting this thread as it might make him feel worse, but I was (and still am) so sad and angry that he's been driven to give up his hobby.
