Hi, I'm new to photography and would like to get into macro any suggestions on what sort of lens I may need.

welcome to the forum

what camera do you have is the 1st question? I use a Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro lens to good effect and it makes a good portrait lens too

Have a look at the flickr link and you'll see what I mean

Enjoy your camera and the forum - we are nice people and dont bite

Les

It all depends on the camera you have :)

A third party such as the Tamron 90mm comes in different flavours: Nikon, Canon, Sony etc. Sigma make a few also.

Otherwise, if you have a Nikon, you can get a 60mm micro, 105mm. Canon make some but I'm not familiar with their offerings.

If you put the camera you use in your posting or in your control panel, some more helpful suggestions may come your way.

Welcome to the club and have fun!

I'm a Canon man and I have the Canon 100mm macro f2.8L but its not in everyone's price range. They do a 100mm macro f2.8 (not L series) for around £300 ish

Hi Michelle - Using a Sigma 105 f2.8 on the 30D - excellent:thumbs:

Little bit lacking on the 5DMkII though

If you have the budget go or a Canon 100mm (about £250 -£300 used) internal focusing and better working distance than the Tamron and Sigma, you'll also need a flash as well to get the best out of any lens. And welcome to TP
