Macro on Fuji

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting back into close up macro, but am now with Fuji, so with native lens wise I'm somewhat restricted with the only native lens is not what I'd consider a macro, especially having once owned the MP-E 65mm.

Currently I'm considering a few lenses, but would need a manual aperture ring.

Vivitar 55mm f2.8
Venus 60mm 2:1
Tamron 180mm

Obviously I'd be using an adaptor, but given focus peaking and so on its not a biggie, plus when you;re looking at an ants eye you're generally manually focusing anyway - and rocking back an forth like an Arkham Asylum regular!

~Another consideration would be lighting - again not Fuji's strong point, but any\all suggestions very welcome.

I had considered posting this is the macro section but thought I'd get more Fuji users out here.

I have but at a 1:2 isn't where I'd want to be, thanks though.
 
I believe there is a lovely macro lens in the classifieds at the moment which even comes with a Fuji adapter :D

Lighting shots is always the problem with the Fuji's. I had one of the small meike flashes which I had hoped to use via a canon ttl cord, unfortunately the TTL stopped working when I used the cord and the manual settings weren't consistent.
My other method was using the Nissin I40 on a cord but obviously slightly bigger then (then the latest X-Pro2 firmware update stopped the ttl on it!)
 
Samyang do a 100mm macro lens for us fooj folk and it does 1:1 ratio.
It is manual focus but then a legacy macro lens is equally manual focus too.
If you can wait then Fuji's roadmap suggests they will release a 1:1 macro lens next year.....XF80mm f2.8 to be precise.
 
Thanks guys, I did notice the one in classifieds, no idea why you mentioned it though ;)

I don;t know why but somewhere in the back of my head I seem to have discounted the Samyang, despite usually having no issues with their lenses - something I read somewhere once I think.

On the flashes front I really should look into what works on Fuji and how - I've both old Canon and Nikon triggers and flashes, surely something would work :)

BTW "wait" is a four letter word!
 
Continued to poke around and looking at the fuji 60mm took me to the extension tubes, which in turn took me to these cheap (if garish, but thankfully also available in black) auto tubes - link - anyone tried them?

I THINK that Nikon/Canon flashes will work but will be fully manual

A set of eBay jobbies which are probably the same work just as well. I have the 60mm macro and probably don't use it at all really as I use the tubes and my other lenses.

Take a look at the following link on tubes to give you an idea of whether it would be useful for you to give them a try.

These are the Fuji versions but it gives you a good idea of the reach you will get by lens.

Is that the 180mm Nikon you refer to? I was a little tempted but worry it might be rather on the long side. With the Fuji crop that is 270mm. UMMM?
 
No, that was a different one, I was/am tempted with the 180 however I'm not sure about manual focus at range, if I still had my Nikon I'd grab it
 
Ah yes. Now I've found it. No wonder @Barrysprout was promoting it!
Can @Barrysprout tell me if it has its own focusing ring or does it need a macro slider? I have a legacy macro but it needs a slider and is PIA to use other than on a desk top.
That looks to be almost what I'm after. Tempting!
 
There is a 1:1 fuji macro due very shortly
 
Yes an 80mm isn't it? They were due to bring out a 120mm macro but had big problems with it so scrapped it.
 
Not that shortly, it's it mid next year.

BTW just seen some pretty nice shots with the 90mm and Raynox 250, that coupled with some tubes should get pretty close
 
yep, interstingly it will be compatible with the teleconverters
 
The Samyang is £400 and the food will be at least that and maybe more. For an occasional macro session that's more than I really want to pay. Colin's would be ideal if.....
