Macro lighting

I use a cheap set of lenses that screw onto the front of my Canon 350D for macro shots and I`ve had some great results but light is a problem. No matter how bright the light I use it usually comes out red or orange. I was inspired today to do a set of macro shots in my workshop so I thought I`d pick your collective brains about lighting.
I need something portable that gives me good results and doesn`t cost much money. If anyone could offer any suggestions I`d be very grateful...

Hi Ryan,

Could it be a white balance problem or are you shooting raw? Any chance you could post an example?
