I looked at purchasing a macro lens from a guy who was selling one on here - the Tonika 100mm, I am used to using the Tamron 90mm - but Ive looked at the Sigma 105mm
The more I've had daves 90mm, the more Ive wanted my own - but it seems a bit pointless dave and I having the same equiptment, when i can just borrow his....so I thought something a little bit longer - hence the 105....

Just looking for a bit of advice from fellow users....PLEASE!!!

I've had the Sigma 105mm for a few years now and Its been a great lens. Only problem I did find was that in studio lighting I had to sharpen the final image a great deal more, but in saying that I put it down to the EOS20D I was using at the time, for some reason It gave diagonal striations with sigma lenses and small apertures

I would use it with flash, but highly unlikely I'd use with Studio lighting as such - but thank you for getting back to me :)

I think the siggy 105 is a excellent lens for the money...

Del,

I suspect that you'll see very little difference between the 90 and the 105 and it maybe worth pushing out to 150 (if you'll still have the option to use the 90 if needed). A 150 will give you a greater working distance and the added oppotunities that come with it.

Thing is Bob, the 90 isnt my lens. I canno have it all the time, and I do thnk the 150 would be too long for some of the stuff that I use it for....so i dont know what to do...

I don't need it that often myself babe, so why not save your money and have it on a near permanent loan ???

I say this because you're right, the 150mm is a good macro but as we use it for Wedding work too it'd be too long; and a 50mm macro would be too short

I can tell you're tempted by a D300 (Duty Free), and if you got that there'd be more options for you to shoot at Weddings as 2 cameras means 2 lenses = more options

DD

PS - I'm NOT encouraging you to buy the D300 btw - honest

There you go then siggy 105mm & a D300 (duty free) - the same combo i used for my shots :D

The 105mm can also produce good portrait shots.
