Hi All
Looking to have a go at some macro photography.
Not sure which lens to get but after reading reviews etc the Sigma 105 macro seems like it will suit my needs. Will the fact that it is a full frame lens and I use a Nikon 3200 cause any problems. At the moment I have the 18-55 kit lens so I would rather get something different from that focal length.
I plan to shoot plants, insects that sort of thing plus I have a reef tank so will be taking some photographs of that as well.

Any thoughts, suggestions much appreciated.

It'll be fine on a crop sensor for the type of subject you wish to shoot.

Not a macro lens but I have seen a number of excellent images taken with your kit lens 18-55mm, and either a close up lens which screws onto the front of the lens, or a extension tube that fits between the lens and camera body.:)
If you go for a genuine Macro lens just make sure it has a built in motor as the D3200 will not AF with all macro lenses.
Although many people tend to focus manually when taking close up or macro images.

You can use full frame lenses on a crop body without any issue. I have the Sigma 105mm HSM OS and it is a great lens. It has a built in motor so will work with your body, but as already mentioned for macro work it is better to use manual focus. Set it to 1:1 (or 1:2 if your subject is big such as a butterfly) then move yourself back and forth to get focus. Remember depth of field is very shallow at 1:1 so you need to use a small aperture such as f16. Obviously this restricts light which is why a lot of people use flash with macro. I use mine on a flash bracket with a diffuser.

Thanks for all the advice.
Had a look at the close up lenses but only having one lens the 105 focal length gives me more options when I am out and about.
