Hey guys need some advice on a macro lens for bugs etc. Firstly my budget is around the £300 mark. My curren body is a canon 750d

Im looking at two lenses at the moment :-

SIGMA MACRO 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM - Canon

CANON EF-S 60 mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens

Is there any better options about? Im totally new to dslr photography, and need to get this lens right first time.

Thanks

Hi, you don't say what your subjects will be, but you will probably find the Sigma the better option, if for nothing e.lse than it will give you much better working distance from you subject. Quality wise, it is probably better than the Canon anyway.

I have the canon 100 macro -it is awesome but I have not tried the Sigma - not sure if that fits in your budget though but I believe it's a 1.8- Great for macro and portraits

Basically as I start to learn, I will be focusing primarily on E-Cig coil art (see attached) but I also want to get into general garden insects too.

We have the Sigma 50mm Macro lens and it's a great lens for us, well built and works for out needs as we don't shoot insects etc - if you're wanting to shoot bugs etc, I'd recommend the 100mm+ range of lenses.

I looked at the Canon and Sigma when we were choosing and preferred the Sigma lens...

As you're wanting to get into general insects, from your 2 lenses, I'd opt for the Sigma :)

Well I bit the bullet and went with something not on my shortlist ;p
Canon EF 100 mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens

The Sigma 105mm OS is a stunning lens, I have L lenses but the Sigma is probably optically the best lens I have.

I'm not sure you'll get the newer OS version of the lens for your budget though (the non OS lens you might, but the newer OS is optically better, as well as having OS of course).
