Macro LED ring flashes?

Technically this is a light source but not a flash

These provide constant light on a subject, rather than a burst of light

Both products will illuminate the objects being photographed

The only issue is if you use them in conjunction with a flash you may get a different colour temperature reading

Hi,
i've been looking at these over the past few days and like your mum have seen the above. Also i have found this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/F170-Macro-O-Flash-Ring-CANON-550EX-580EX-II-EOS-/320548425510?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_CameraFlashUnits_JN

which attaches to your flash. Also available for Nikon Flash/cameras.

In the end i found a flash bracket and decided to try this first because i can carry on using my original Canon 430. You will need an off shoe flash cord as well i think

Hope this helps

Thats very true about them not being flashes even though they say they are in the title. Im wondering if continuous lighting would make life easier for better auto focus. Are they bright enough though to shoot at F8?

i would also be interested to see if anyone has experience of these items because as rgrebby quotes above are they bright enough to shoot at F8.

I have just bought one of these, not had chance to use it too much but they do give you a couple of stops especially if what you are trying to photograph is in shadow, in the undergrowth, and they help provide light when focussing, especially with tubes on. I have never owned a ringflash so I can`t compare, they say these are similar to a GN of 15, the Canon ringflash is GN14. But I can`t help thinking that a ringflash would be better, although much mor eexpensive.

Hope this helps. :)

Would be great if you could give it a good play with and let us know how you get on.

I read on a review you cant use it for more than 10mins at a time as it will burn the LEDs?
