Macro in raw

I do, but not just macro but any shot. It's the same reasons, if I fluff exposure I can get it back easier

I shoot raw for everything including macro. It doesn't improve image quality by itself, but like others have said it gives you flexibility. It gives you more flexibility to control all the sharpening yourself (you could also do that by shooting jpg and setting sharpening in camera to 0 though), I'll often spend a while carefully tweaking the sharpening on macro files to counteract diffraction softening as well as possible.

R.e. what to set your camera to, raw is raw. The other settings are just for having the camera also save a jpg of various quality settings alongside the raw file.

Just shoot RAW if you are going to process the images is any way. RAW+Jpeg just fills up your card faster.

Unless you want fast, continuous shutter speeds for sports. My D300s will only do around 3FRS in raw and it will do 7FPS in JPEG.

Or that's my understanding.

Cheers.

Hi posiview, the big speed difference is caused by using 14 bit raw. Try using 12bit and you'll see a big speed increase.

Does anyone shoot macro in raw if so what are the advantages ie are they more clearer crisper
Mark

I shoot everything in RAW and do lots of Macro, not crisper or clearer, however: in PP you get more control when the images are shot in RAW

Les

Yup. Everything in RAW. Doesn't matter what it is.

Sorry my economy of words clouded my meaning. I should have made it clear that I always use RAW. It suits my purpose. There indeed good reasons for not using RAW.
