Yes
i am very intrested in the macro photography (close up of insects etc)
but i am also very new to photography

i have between £100 and £150 to spend on a macro lens (not much i know, but been new i dont want to go to expensive)
i have a samsung GX10, and will be going to jessops in town
i have browsed the jessops website and non of there macro lenses in my price range seem to be compatible with my camera

should i take my camera along with me and try to get one that fits?
or is there a compatible one i can just go in and purchase

thanks in advance

Les

Just thought I'd post here as I am in a similar position to the OP and would like to ask for any help with Macro lenses.

I don't quite understand the lens numbering (but I'm getting there...I think...) but I do know that as a forensic student I need to get close to my subject.

I also have a GX-10, but am not so limited on shopping around mainly as I havent found much for me in Jessops :)

Any help is really great so thanks in advance :)

Can I point you here about the Raynox as I did a test on them for Cobra.

As the GX-10 is a Pentax K10D under the skin and behind the user interface, anything which fits the K10D will fit (or should).
My guess is that you won't get a dedicated macro lens for £100-£150 but you would get a set of Kenko Tubes for around £100 in the UK (for example Devon Camera); other sources may be cheaper.

edit: removed rubbish much better explained by others

Cheapest option for a true macro lens seems to be a Sigma 50mm at about £200.

This can also double as a nice standard lens too.

Available in Pentax k-AF2 mount as used by the samsung dslrs

Thanks for all the replies I will have a good look at the linked posts ^_^

Sharpness is inherrent in macro lenses. Even the very cheapest such as the 100mm Phoenix f/3.5 macro (also sold under Vivitar and other brand names) produces decent imagery. The Phoenix sells new for just a bit over the price of a good set of extension tubes here in the U.S. and I would imagine the U.K. price for this lens would be in line with the U.K. price of a good set of extension tubes. Apparently it is produced in a Pentax AF mount.
