I have a Canon 60D and a 100mm f2.8 L. Up to now I've been using a cheap LED light for macro, but it doesn't cut the mustard so I'm looking for something (much) better. The question is what. I've looked through the "show us your macro rig" thread, but I'm now in a dilemma whether to cobble something together with a standard flash or two on a bracket, or go for a dedicated macro flash. What are the pros & cons?

Budget isn't really an issue, so I'm happy to fork out for a MT-24EX if that is the answer. But I do want something reasonably portable that I can use in the field.

If budgets not an issue just get the MT-24ex, once you made some diffusers , good repeatable results every time.
