Just wondered if any Mac fans out there thought the software utility Mackeeper was any good?

I'd be interested in your views.

What does it do?

It sounds a bit pointless to me, the sort of extra utility that gets added to a PC, but Macs are easy to manage out of the box.

We're you looking to install it for a particular reason?

You can get utilities like Cocktail to do a lot of the house keeping that MacKeeper does. On a Mac you don't need the AV software as to date there are no Mac viruses in the wild, besides there is free AV software for Mac available. One good part of MacKeeper was the "Find my Mac "option, which pre lion was probably worth the purchase and worked very well.

I have MacKeeper on my iMac but probably wouldn't buy it again.

unless you download 3 million programs a day, utilities like this aren't at all necessary on a PC either.

Any modern operating system looks after itself well enough, such utilities are generally a waste of time, and in my 3 1/2 years experience as an IT tech as well as many years beforehand, cause more trouble than they sort!

Thanks everyone for your comments.
