No
I don't use the DVD drive often, so unsure when it broke.

However I've recently had my keyboard case surround replaced at Apple due to the known fault on cracking around the wrist area so not sure if this is related, as it was working before then, but when again I'm unsure.

I slot the DVD in as far as I can and nothing happens!?

I'd take it back to Apple mention you haven't seen it working since it was in there. They've always been really helpful when I've been.

Done that this morning

Unfortunately they found a piece of plastic broken in the drive :(

If it was working before they did the case then I'd say it happened when they changed the case and they should replace the drive FOC.

Incidentally how much did it cost for a case replacement and did you take it to apple themselves?

I don't use the DVD drive often but never had an issue in the past

The case was replaced Free of charge as under their known faults

I've go no way to prove it worked minutes prior to fix and what happened post

They said its very unlikely it would have happened with just a case fix. Not much I can do apart from find a low cost method local (bristol) to fix

Shame the air SuperDrive USB won't work apparently as that unit new is £66
Would have been happy just to do that for a bit but as I'm thinking of upgrading and do would like to swap for a pro worth fixing I think.

Oh. How old is you mac? Mine's 4 now and it starting cracking last year. I stuck some sellotape on it! I talked to an apple repairer and they wanted a fortune to do it.

Did you take it into a genius bar?

Mine is a 2007 model and apple fixed in FOC when I took it to the genius bar.

Cool. Mine's a 2008. I think I will be visiting a genius bar :)

Yeah mines 2007 or 2008 , actually how do I tell?

Anyway booked it with genius bar and fixed FOC. Think it depends on specific age which they check with serial number

You could always try replacing the drive yourself? I'm sure there must be plenty of second hand/new versions as the drive is pretty common, both in the Apple range and also other brands (Dell XPS1330 uses the same drive).

I'm useless at things like this, but will have a look at a YouTube clip

You can't prove that the drive was working until they replaced the case, so I'd just explain what has happened. Nothing to lose, and they might agree to replace/fix it free or at a discount? Time enough to look for other solutions if they won't help.

Who can I contact to escalate?
