Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a Macbook Pro 15". I am looking at the different screen options.

I am talking about the non retina screen versions here, there is 3 options listed below. I was wondering if anybody had either of these options and if so what the thought process was in deciding which version to go for. Also if there are any pitfalls, Hi-Res requires more processing power or something.

MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display [Standard]
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display [+ £75.60]
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display [+ £75.60]

I am currently using a 13" Macbook pro which is about 3 years old so I have that has a comparison, and also have a 1 year old 27" iMac at work.

Thanks in advance.

Anti-glare. Shiny screens are bloody awful.

The difference is pretty simple

(Standard) - 1440-by-900 pixels & glossy screen
(Hi-Res) - 1680-by-1050 pixels & glossy screen
(Hi-Res antiglare) - 1680-by-1050 pixels & a matte non-reflective screen

Firstly you have to decide if you want a matte screen or not. If you do then you only have one choice. Personally I hated the glossy screen so I bought the antiglare version. If unsure, pop into an Apple store and see a side by side comparison. You will the the difference.
Or type 'macbook pro antiglare screen' into a google images search and there are some side by side comparison photos.

Or if you can happily use a glossy reflective screen (which you probably have been doing with your 13" for the past 3 years) then you only need to decide on what resolution you require. As a 13" user you may not want/need/miss the extra screen space the Hi-res versions offer. I would guess you are up to 1280x800 for a 13".

There is no right or wrong answer, just choose what best suits your needs. No pitfalls.

Thanks for the replies. Is there much difference between the 2 resolutions when working on the screens? I had a brief look in Apple store but was ridiculously busy, will be looking definitely before buying. Just wondered if there were any pointers before went to talk to the Apple Genius's!

I am happy with the current screen, but then again I know no better from an anti glare one!
