Yes
Just about to tkae the plunge and order a macbook pro. Decided on the 15" 2.4GHz which looks amazing. Whilst ordering it has asked me for a matt or gloss finish to the screen.

Now i know the matt help stops glare and the gloss apparently makes the colours a little richer but what have you guys got and does the different in screen finish make that much difference?

I have no idea which one to choose.

You might want to look for yourself because the difference is huge but I hated the glossy screen.

It seemed to me that if you wanted web pages or your holiday snaps/video to have an overly saturated look, then the gloss is great.

If you want true colours and a screen that you can see without reflections, the matt is very very nice and much better than the ones from the g4 powerbook era.

I agree, its all down to personal preferance, I went for the 17" highres screen and checked the matt and gloss options, i found the matt looked grainy and the glossy gave a richer colour and sharper image. I went for the glossy option and have used it in all types of lighting environments and never had a problem.

Can't comment on the Macbook Pro's as I don't have one but I do have a G4 Powerbook with a matt screen and a Sony Vaio S2XP with gloss onyx screen and the Sony one kicks ass. Blacks are so much deeper and colours don't look washed out.

Macbook Pro.. MMMmmmmmmm. WANT ONE!

I have a Vaio from way back too and the screen is indeed way way better than the G4 powerbooks.

The macbook pro has closed the gap lots but the sony would still have an edge for image quality.

Totally a question of user preferences... try them both and take a good look at the difference - preferably ask the Mac guru you speak with to show you the same image on each of the screens. Then you can better make up your mind and decide.

I love my glossy screen. It adds a huge amount of punch to your images and calibrated properly it looks superb.

You hear it all too often, all these complaints about the glossy screen, usually from people who have never used them.

Go look for yourself and choose what you like.

King.

Haha, just read your last post... nice one!

Congrats on your Mac purchase Tank... hope you enjoy it.

Good call - I have one of each and much prefer the glossy.

I might be getting one bought for me soon so I am in the Apple Store now comparing screen options. While images on the glossy one look much nicer the glare is very noticeable. (The lighting in here is awful, so a perfect test!)

Decided to come on here to try reading something and while using it I do not notice the glare at all, and this after switching to the black forum theme to show them up more, though if I stop to look at the screen (rather than the content) it is covered in reflections.

Would anyone else share that opinion that it is not a problem, or is it something that will become one after a while? One of the things I had read is that at least with glossy everything reflects straight off the screen so has less impact than a matt screen where it is diffused. This is a particular problem using my PowerBook in really bright light (such as next to the window on a train) where the screen turns into a dull grey and you cannot see anything.

Michael.

I honestly cant think of a single time I have had an issue using the glossy screen on my MBP - in fact, I have had more issues seeing the matt screen in bright light.

Love my glossy screen and am glad they finally upped the resolution to 1920 :)
