I am considering buying a macbook (currently a windows user).

Planning to get a MBP probably an i5 with 4gb ram. However i do want to know what you guys think about MB air. Its thin and more portable but weight and size is not an issue to me. Also i like the fact that mbp has disc drive which air lacks.

Whats are the advantages of mba over mbp or vice versa?

Which one would u go for among the two?

Considering my budget constraint i am planning to go for i5 4gb ram. Whats the best place to buy one? Amazon , apple store?

Inputs would be appreciated

Thanks
Naveen

Best place to buy is John Lewis - gives you 2 year warranty.

4GB is totally too little today. Get 16GB ideally, or 8 at the very least

MBA is a bit out of date with the terrible screen and low spec. You really have to get the retina MBP. forget the CD, it's a dead technology.

or scavenge ebay for slightly older models and save some cash.

I have the MBA but my purpose was to use it purely for travel purposes. For travel, it is perfect. It's thin, it's light, 11" MBA lasts about 2 - 3 hours in a cafe.

I wish I had more RAM (4GB) and I wish I had more storage space (only 64GB). I need more because I need to run Windows inside a VM for work. If you're just doing basic browsing and office, 4GB RAM should suffice.

With the MBA, I don't have an optical drive and I don't even have an ethernet plug. I do have the ethernet to USB adapter but honestly, I have survived with just Wi-Fi. Especially with 802.11n, it's great.

And I love the touchpad. Two finger scroll and two finger tap for right click.

That's my input on the MBA side :)

But yeah, forget the CD, it is a technology you can live without.
