My insurance has finally paid out for the burglary, A Macbook pro was nicked and I'm wondering if to get a Macbook Air or wait for a new pro to come out. According to this site one should be imminent.

The Air is a stunner, but I already have an ipad which is, of course, even more portable.

I also have an imac but I miss having a proper laptop as I like to fiddle with Lightroom while the wife watches SEX Factor.

So what do we think

Macbook air now or new Macbook pro if and when it comes out?

The new option does not constitute a full update to the MacBook Pro line, but does suggest that a more substantial update to the full MacBook Pro lineup is not imminent.

I would say it depends on what you want to use it for

If you do serious work on your laptop then the MacBook Pro it has to be; if you want something that is mediocre for post processing but an outstanding portable machine, then the MacBook Air is the one to get.

Don't mix the iPad and MacBook Air together; they are not for the same target market.

I had an iPad, and loved its' sleekness, refinement and portability. I also loved it for being the resurrection of the Newton :p; but it couldn't attach external hard drives, screen was a bit too small for my liking, and can't run Lightroom, so I passed it on to my daughter and got the new 11" MacBook Air. It was a marvellous small machine not that much bigger than an iPad, but still too small a screen for my liking. I returned it for the 13" MBA and have loved taking it on trips.

It fits nicely in my camera bag, barely noticeable weight-wise, has dual USB ports, a reasonable processor to view pictures, and good enough storage for my most needed applications, a very respectful 13" screen, outstanding battery life (over 5 hours with WiFi on). I've just ordered LR3 and MS Office 2011 to install on to it.

At home, I use the MacBook Pro, or the iMac, on my weekend trips it's the Air all the way.

Thanks Guys,

Wail, you are right if I was to get one it would be the 13", but this will be my main processing machine for the next couple of years as I don't like to lock myself away in the study.

I am torn on this one!
