I have just bought myself a Macbook Air, Apple are discontinuing support for iphoto in spring 2015, what are other users going to replace it with?, Im wondering whetner to give the Nikon View NX2 or NXD a shot, been using NX2 for a couple of years on my PC. Dolike Iphoto for basic stuff though.

I have an iMac and I've tried the Mac software but now exclusively use Lightroom. A great programme that will give you almost everything you'll need. If you need more editing functionality then Photoshop Elements or a monthly subscription to Photoshop CC will see you right!

As above give Lightroom room a go. You can download a 30 day trial from the adobe website.

I doubt the new "Photos" app will be less capable than iPhoto. I shall continue to use Aperture since Apple will issue a version compatible with Yosemite even though they are not developing it further.

If you are happy with iPhoto stick with it. The Photo's app seems to be targeted at iCloud storage and sharing. If what they've done to Pages and Numbers is anything to go by then I can't see it being much more than what iPhoto does now. Which for a easy to use app is not bad . If you want something a bit better look at Pixelmator. It's about £10 from the App Store. A bit more sophisticated than iPhoto and is relatively inexpensive.

May get more info next week when a rumoured Apple announcement is to be made. Probably OSX Yosemite and some new Mac's and possibly a 4K cinema display/iMac
