The time has come I am at a crossroads the home PC has packed up and it's time to replace it. It would also be the family PC at the moment it is a toss up between the HP Touchsmart 600-1220uk or APPLE iMac MC511.

I have two kids one is six the other two they both adore cbeebies website and the older one can happily use the pc. I would be interested in your opinions. Thanks:shrug:

the only difference is the user interface.. both platforms have pros and cons and are as reliable as each other in the same price band.. neither one "just works".

so really pop down to PC world or your local Apple store and try out Windows 7 and Apples OSX.

(my money is on this being locked by page 4 by the way ;) )

The other thing to consider is how much investment you've made in software - if you change platform then you'll have to change it all.

I'll take page 3, Neil :p

I think these two post have summed it up more or less, the only other I'd add is which suits your home décor Black or Silver :)

i have had windows all my life but prefer the mac.

always used windows CS4 etc but mac is always IMO better.

finally succumbed and bought an imac 2 weeks ago

Thats a fairly good recommend I have used PCs all my days as well.

PC. Cheaper and just as functional.

I suspect that that comment is on balance, very true.

I like Apple kit, and aesthetically it's in a different league than the majority of PC's, but... they're certainly not without their drawbacks.

As has been said earlier both systems work, and work well. You may find that some software is not available on the Mac, but this is becoming less common nowadays. Even if a Mac version is not available you may find an alternative just as good or sometimes better.

Look at what you are getting for your money. Also consider where it will be used. If the computer is going to be in a main room then you may find the Mac aesthetics a better option.

Best advice I can give is visit a Apple Store and try them out for yourself. Do the same with the PC and see which you prefer.

Personally I'd go for the Mac, but then I'm a bit biased as I converted to Mac 18 months ago. :)

Macs are PCs nowadays. The question can be rephrased as "PC capable of running OSX or PC not capable of running OSX?"

So, do you want to run OSX?

I own several PCs, including one made by Apple. All of them run either debian, ubuntu or Windows. The Apple (a Core 2 Duo based Mac Mini) has Windows 7 on it, OSX having been expunged after about six months.
