As title really and how do you rate it? Also have you moved from one to another for what reason?

U switches to LR4 from aperture 3. Overall I think it slightly better but not by much. aperture is much more user friendly

Am thinking about it yes as I feel it does some great work to raw images and I love the NR in Lightroom it better than define to my eyes.

I use both - aperture for very quick processing, organisation & contact sheet printing and it's so simple to use :), lightroom for the grad filters and better lighting & sharpening adjustments. I use photoshop too for major things like cloning.

I don't like the aperture 'shadow lift' as it lifts the entire image, whereas LR & PS are far more accurate & selective.

The chromatic aberration adjustment in PS is also far better than aperture.

hope this helps!

(edited to say I only shoot in raw)

Be hard to use both files be all over wont they. I have found aperture good at some things like organising files. Still trying figure best way LR to do this.

Not if you DONT save in the Aperture / iPhoto library... and use referenced files ;)

That what I do I use referenced files.

But if we import into aperture I would have to import into LR too and if I made some adjustment in either I have to import them again?

why don't you download the demos of both and decide which you prefer

I have and it hard

Aperture I prefer the file management
Lightroom I prefer the processing

surely at the end of the day the processing is more important than "filing"? (IMHO)

Any more input on this folks :)

In Lightroom than aperture this hard to decide I like something's in LR something's in aperture

I used aperture for some time and really liked it...then patch after patch just seemed to grind my mac to a halt with a spinning beach ball on just basic clone editing...(i am on a old imac Intel job)
switched to lightroom and hated it at 1st....then it all clicked into place and made sense and no more spinning beach ball and works like a charm.

I did not like lightroom as I found it hard to learn.

Aperture for me, all down to personal preference I suppose be worth giving lightroom demo a try?

I'm an Aperture user but that was mainly because it would import all my edits I'd made in iPhoto (I was an iPhoto user before I was a DLSR user).

It's a great app though, very easy to use and the books you can produce in it are pretty decent. Having everything in one app is great. The white balance 'droplet' approach is very good (click and hold on the photo and move the cursor around. It will take the selected pixel at any one time as neutral grey and update the image accordingly).

As an extra benefit (which is by no ways a prioirty but a nice to have) it will even send your pics to your iphone/ipad. I have a smart album of any photos with tagged faces in and another of my top rated shots. Syncing those means I've always got friends, family and favourites close to hand.

To be fair, I've never used lightroom so no doubt it has other benefits but I've had no reason to switch.

I like and use Aperture after coming from PSE and CS4 & 5. I think that I never really liked Bridge and although I still have PSE10 and use it for some stuff, mostly I prefer to stay in Aperture. Aside from Bridge, I do like to geotag my pictures and find it simple to do with Aperture.

I buy a gift subscription to Lynda.com from time to time and work my way through a product - in fact I think I have done Aperture twice. It does take some effort to do all of the relevant sections but I now know the product better than I used to. $25 well spent I think.

I guess either tool. Just take the trouble to learn it.

Do you let Aperture manage your Files or you use Reference?

Am trying to come to a conclusion the best way to use the file management

Ive just been comparing some photos with aperture and LR just straight out of camera raw imported into both and Ive just discovered they are more to true life colour on LR and in Aperture they looks different to what they look like in true life hmmmm

LR for me, had a few plays with aperture, but found nothing to win me over. Also the fact that ive used lightroom for 4 or 5 years means a switch would be difficult.

I've been with aperture for 4 years but LR seem to be winning me over at the moment. Just shame nik software is slower with it than aperture.

In a way, both. You can import into Aperture and into different locations. Probably wrongly, I tend to export changed files to the place I want them as we'll as keeping archived.

Decide what floats you and go with it wholeheartedly, no swapping between the two unless there is a feature you want in the other.

Have you tried the full screen edit (on a 27" iMac) with a heads up display with Aperture?

I suspect that there are loads of tools most folk don't exploit on either of their choices.

I know alot about aperture Ive use full screen anyway :) I use alot of the brush in and out the like. But they dont perform as good as lightroom brush only one thing aperture is good at with the brush is sharpener

Ok Lightroom on offer so might switch but wonder how people using the catalogue etc car to share some screen shots? Please
