I folks been absent a while as lot going of in personal life, however i have always hankered after a mac.
Im fed up of windows and moved all pcs over to hardy heron.
However i want to get a imac i think for the web and for the most part photoedditing, in this vain what is your learned advice.
Im looking at second user if possible i dont think the 17 inch would be large enough but if others say it is ok i will jump in for one of those.
It will have to be a intel preferably duo 2.
The power pc ones just canot come any where near on performance.
All this just to get aperture aye???
Ive always wanted to go mack and aperture has helped.
Thank you all as ever,
James

Just get yourself down to an Apple store, and have a play with the different machines. No hassle from the staff and available if you need more info.

I was told by one of the guys at the Apple store in the Trafford centre that if I needed to load my images onto a Mac to try it out all I needed to do was to make an appointment.

Just waiting for lightroom 2.0 to come out ( it's 64 bit enabled) before making the switch.

GET A IMAC ! no seriously i had a pc for afew years and my work uses them so the lad sort of pushed me into getting one as my pc was tired! so i bought one from the apple store online i paid 1500 for mine but changed some stuff for my personal pref. Nice 24" screen as well, no wires everywhere except the weyboard and mouuse wire thats it. its the best bit of kit ive bought. buut mind you if you not used one before it will take abit to get used to. my gf hated them as they had one in her office , but since using mine shes getting to like it. so reliable. Buy one you wont be disapointed

have you had a chance to play around with an iMac? if not, go down to an apple store and have a play, or book an appointment with a technician and they will sit down with you. They will show you all you need to know and see, (thats if you have a local apple store)
i had never touched a mac unitl i started college and that was all they used, i have never looked back to a windows pc ( well apart from work ) been over four years now. bought myself a iBook laptop a couple years ago and then last lear bought the 24" iMac, which is just an amazing piece of kit, the operating system will take getting used to, but once you get the hang of it you will love it. you should take a look at the following links that will show some videos and tutorials on how the operating system and software work and how you can use them in your everyday life. Link 1 Link 2

thats all i can really think about just now, but if you have any questions just shout..

I got an IMAC. Pure quality. No more windows viruses. Totally neat. Im' doing a BTEC National Diploma in Photography at college and this has helped me. Everything so easy to use and the 24" screen is awesome for looking at your images.
You wont regret it.

well could not justifie the price hike for the 24inch but the 20 is great i did the apple store and had an hour with one of the staff on it.
I love it, but i have had a problem when i got some crucial memmory for it as it had 1gb to start with i got a 2gb module but having worked fine for a couple of days the system then would not boot with the crucial memmory in no matter which slot.
Sent back and just recieved the replacement but again straight out the box it wont boot.
Taken memmory out again and boots fine on the 1gb that came installed.
Anyone had any such problems? im sure crucial will say its the mac but i cant see that as runs fine with the 1gb that came in it no matter which slot that is in.
Advice please.

I bought mine in matched pairs to prevent any issues like this. I got my memory from crucial and used their memory picker, you state make machine and model it tells you what you need. I took out the 1gb and sold to a friend who just got mack and installed 2 x 2gb chips.

No issues and fast as anything.

Hi James,

I use a Mac and absolutely love them.

Have a look at some of the 'refurbished' Mac suppliers, including Apple themselves. They come with a full warranty and the discount often means that you can get the next spec up for your money.

Best of luck.

James_death I hope you dont mind me asking a side question?

Im thinking of purchasing a Mac Mini at some point this year, maybe early 09.. Are they any good? Can it support dual screen? (not mac monitors)

Regards, James

not answeringthe above question but i use my old plat monitor as a second screen with my imac.

If you want a mac a bit cheaper there are discounts available for specific people. there's an education discount for students and teachers (17.5%) or a discount for any NHS worker of 8%.

there are also refurbs sold through the apple store which could save you a bit.
