Mac OS Ventura

The instructions are for older versions of macOs with slight changes for Ventura.
Following the instructions through on my M1 iMac I come to exactly the same endpoint and my Desktop picture is already in the required location.
I made this change over a year ago (following a different set of instructions) and it only changes the Desktop, it doesn't change the Login Screen ... at Startup, after I login with my password it changes to my preferred picture but at Startup it is always the orange screen.
How often do you start your mac?

Ok. I only boot up mine when there are updates. Otherwise it just goes to sleep at night.
Energy efficiency here, programmable plugs take everything out of ‘standby’. :)

It's essentially a Unix system, you can let it run for days, weeks or months with no issues.. Unless your electricity bill is very high, of course...

When you Mac gets too old, you can always install Linux on it and extend the life of the machine....
I just see no point in using energy for no good purpose. :)

If you are running an SSD and can turn off the screen, then you are not using much energy at all.
I'm not using any with it switched off! ;)

That's not an App Store app, so I presume it's a third-party app? Where can I get it from, please?
It's an Epson app so on Epson site. It came with the driver when I downloaded mine. Please note that I use a different printer to yours but this utility was available for all my previous Epson printers over the years so I think it would be for yours too. Just search for your printer driver and that should take you to the Epson site for download.

Not necessarily true. If you have a power adapter then even when the computer is off, the power adapter will still consume some electricity (albeit a tiny amount). The only way to make sure it consumes no electricity is to unplug it. ;)
He's using programmable smart plugs to turn the power on/off... no need to unplug...

Well I'm back to Monterey as of now.

Adguard does not work, neither does Vuescan (put a ticket in for this)
Intersting about Vuescan, that would be a deal breaker for me. I see he has a version for Ventura for download - did you have that?

Ouch... sorry to hear that, how much time did you spend going back ?

Thanks for taking the plunge though, made me look at Affinity's website, they do not list Ventura as a compatible OS yet, so that answers that question..

Oh that’s not good would be no use to me then as I spend most of my time on either Affinity or DXO

I have updated to Ventura (iMac M1) and have not found a problem with DXO Photolab 5, Nik or Affinity.
PL5 had an update today for Ventura.

That’s great news thanks
I’ll sort the update tomorrow then
Was nervous about doing it as wouldn’t know how to go back to a previous update or anything like that

Just checked Affinity Photo on my M1 Mac. It won't open Olympus OM-1 raw (.ORF) files so that's a bug, It does work with tifs, dng and jpgs though. A bit surprised they are normally very much up with the OS releases.

It didn't take me long actually. Problem is you cannot "downgrade" officially, the only way is to either use a USB Monterey installer or go into recovery and download Monterey from there. Apple servers always download the original version of MacOS that shipped with your machine.

In all it took about an hour or so and that is reinstalling all my software, I think I will give it a few months to get the teething troubles ironed out and for my software to be updated.

I downloaded the driver and installed it and I can't see any difference from the driver I installed when I got the printer. I click on System Settings, Options & Supplies, and the Print Utility tab is still missing. No problem for now, though, as I can just use the front panel.

Well that is this imac totally wrecked now thanks to ventura, safe mode is slower than a sloth. So it looks like I might try and get Windows 10 on here tomorrow and if not then this mac goes in the bin and I start to use my old Windows 10 PC.
What Mac are you having the issue with?

Imac 27 inch, I downloaded this crap ventura and now nothing works at all as no App store internet keeps going Safe mode is terrible and it won't let me even go back using my back ups. I give up for tonight and if its the same in the morning then it can go in the bin.

If an iMac isn't compatible, it won't give you the option to upgrade
There are often ‘workarounds’ posted on the Internet. I remember my old 21” & 27” could have been updated to Catalina by using such a ‘workaround’ posted on macrumours, (I didn’t).
Even so if it has failed, the OS can be reinstalled. If it is new enough to be compatible with Ventura then I would take that option before the bin!

Thank you very much Ventura, downloaded this help of crap as the app store has disappeared and the imac is slower than a snail with the runs. Looks like a factory reset for me tomorrow, big bad mistake to try ventura.
For a long time I've only installed a new macOS after at least 3 updates, then only after checking my software, scanner and printer are all compatible. Then I ensure I have multiple backups, then erase, install the new macOS and set it up. Setup my email accounts, reinstall software, setup printers then copy data I require back. Never fails, and I get peak performance with no clutter filling storage. Try it.

It is the Imac 2020 27 inch, have been trying all night to get it back up and running. It looks like ventura has wiped off all the original OS settings when ventura downloaded, have been looking at getting a Windows 10 desktop, as this update has really done me right in as nothing will let me do a thing so thank you very much apple.

Just reinstall the OS and recover from Time Machine.

There is always the option of rolling back to a previous OS: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/downgrade-macos-version/
That is what I did, used recovery and put a fresh system on my machine. could have gone the Time Machine route but I thought a fresh install would be better as time machine would have copied all the junk back.
FWIW it seems quite a few are having internet/wifi issues with Ventura.

There were issues with WiFi on the early Beta releases I tried one and had no WiFi so I had to go back to Monterey. But that issue has been fixed now for months AFAIK. The final official release worked without fault for me. Many people blame Apple when the issue is around their printer and scanner drivers. Not sure why they don't contact the manufacturers of the failing hardware. It's not as if they haven't had plenty of time to update the drivers.

Here is the compatibility list for iMac, is yours compatible?

You are a total star gramps, kept trying this last night till about 3am still did not work so over this last hour I retried it and got Catalina back on then it upgraded to Ventura and all seems bang on now. Just have to get the Scroll wheel to go right and download my editing software lot then it all looks good. Thank you so much again mate.

Glad it looks like it's sorted Dave. :)

That’s odd I’ve got about 5 x gmail accounts on mine. Are you adding them to Apple’s Mail?
