Mac or Windows for Editing

Menthel, with all due respect, my nonsense is not quite as misinformed as you may think.

I work as a system administrator, and manage a very large network of Windows PC's and servers, and I see for myself every day how well (or not) Windows works.

I find that most Wintards like yourself have never used a Mac in your life, but are happy to slag them off at every opportunity.

I gave an honest opinion as a computer professional who uses both PC and Mac platforms on a daily and professional basis.

so youre suggesting that all business should rip out windows and replace it with osx and osx server?

I vote for RiscOS it introduced lots of things that took Apple years to add and Windows even longer :)

We'll see but they have a long way to go to make a dent in either Windows or MacOS. You need killer apps too and getting companies like Adobe on board is a must.

Yeah i agree. I think Apple arent doing themselves any favours in the adobe flash/html5 scenario.

Windows will deteriorate in the long term i think as they have always been a software company and the way things are going now (cloud computing) they no longer have that hold on companies/people to stay with them.

My prediction for 2030 is that windows will be where linux is now (liked by many , avoided as its more confusing for alot (terminal etc))

Apple will keep gaining ground but will hit a plateu due to the overpricing and generally locked os

Google will bring out chrome os , modify iut and with it being open source will eventually be the number 1 os

Matt

Ive used linux for years myself but always had to use windows for games and stuff like that. If linux actually got developers to develop and create amazing games then im sure alot more people would use it as lets face it , its free , relatively crash free and easy to use (apart from terminal etc)

In 20 years time all 3 will probably be in a land fill site and BadgerOS will be claiming the crown.

Badgers are like smaller streamlined cows but with an attitude problem :suspect:

Right I'm going to start a thread BadgerOS v Windows/MacOS/Linux/Chrome........... back shortly.

I find that most Wintards

Congratulations, not only is that offensive to anyone who's used Windows, and even more-so to people who prefer Windows but also use MacOS, but even worse, you've just offended anyone who's ever been diagnosed as retarded, or knows anyone who's been diagnosed as retarded. I know one such person, so thanks for that.

If you have such strong views about a subject, no problem, but don't go saying stuff like that to try and get your swathing generalisations attention.

Yuck.

+1:shake:

some are made for windows and some are made for mac so if you changed systems that other HD would be redundant.

Eh? If you could point out an external drive that works on one but not the other (as an external drive) then that would be interesting!

Nope external drives will work on either and will be USB, FW400, FW800 or eSATA all of which work with either.

Some functions like finger print reading stuff etc might not work with both. The drive may just need to be formatted.

oh, some places i've looked on says for windows or for mac so i assumed that it was designed for a specific system.

By gum back on the iPad sitting on the sofa tapping out this massage with one finger,oh the JOY.

Fueling the fire:

I'll go ahead and skip the laundry list of reasons I will never go back to mac, and center this around one main focus.
Proprietary hardware.

For the same amount of money as an overpriced mac desktop PC (yes Apple users. It's still a "personal computer". Sorry to break the bad news) I can build a bigger, more powerful PC to the specs I need, and can make adjustments as I see fit (or as further budget allows) I have a wide array of components at my disposal, many of which can be had at a steal of a price with a little online shopping.
Sure, an imac will get the job done just the same, but if i can do it bigger/better/faster with a custom built box, and at roughly the same cost. To me it is really nothing to debate, and was a very easy decision.

Platforms aside. Whatever gets the job done for you, is the right tool for the job.

Thats pretty much what we've been saying but some of us would rather spend a bit more and get a Mac. My Quad Xeon Mac pro does not slow down whilst doing anything I throw at it so although I could make a computer that is quicker it would just spend MORE time waiting for the next user input! Unless you play games, render 3D or video etc then pretty much anything will do the job now. Most of my editing is actually done on my MBP rather than the Mac Pro simply because it is easier.

my old windows mobile(s) had a similar touch screen keyboard.

also our tills at work are all touch screen and thats a pain to type on.

No I meant have you tried it on the iPad??

Regards.

both for me, but I mainly use my PC because it's the more powerful of the two, however the Mac OS is rock solid, (I know it doesn't make sense  )

just seen this thread and wow 150 posts.....:D:D

Probably repeating what many many others have said but its Mac all the way. Most Mac users used to use PCs so we know what we are talking about :):):cool:

stew

sarcasm fail on my part, in hindsite it wasnt even funny lol

whats the difference? an on-screen touch keyboard cant be that much different..

You have not answered the Question!!

Regards.

Well if it let's you Type with Spelling errors as above I have won:D.

No I have won because the capitol letter in the word "Type" above is incorrect. ;)
