Hi Folks

I currently use a pc for storing and editing etc my photographs but have been looking at the possibility of going over to an Apple Mac. I viewed one at PC World yesterday and was impressed at the quality of the screen. I would welcome any advice/ comments on the pros and cons of the apple mac. I realise that I would have to get one or two new programmes and drivers for my printer and scanner etc.

Many thanks

Ken

seriously id do a search, this comes up every other week or so and ends up getting locked for decending into a fanboy fight..

I agree with neil, but would also say look at a mac in an apple store, where you can really have a long play with it and all the software on it.

It's the one thing that always bugs me about dixon/curry type stores where you can only see some form of store screen saver and not actually try the machine out.

Agree with above, go in to an Apple store and maybe ask for a guided tour of the OS. You already know how a pc works so you need an extended play with OSX to see which suits your needs better.

I never understood why threads are locked so readily. Better to remove the posts which cross the line and let us have an adult discussion. I really enjoy the different views, although I do try to make a case for my corner ;)

Some reasons why a PC may be better:
Might cost less or be more powerful comparitively.
Might be something you are more used to.
You might have software that is not transferrable.

A mac may be better because:
You may prefer the look.
You may find the OS more to your liking.
It will have a decent spec that is tried and tested.

Apple stores are great for a quick tutorial. The staff are usually pretty willing to give a quick overview.

There is no 'right' answer so just enjoy looking.

Readily? The last one went to 6 pages! They are locked because we really don't have the time to constantly monitor these threads and go through them time and time again to delete offending posts and edit/delete the posts which quote them.

As Fabs said the last discussion went to 6 pages.( pity it didn't make 7 for Gary!!).

To keep it short... If you like it and can afford it then go ahead. If in doubt don't.

I speak as someone who has gone from PC to Mac.

Don't worry about printer drivers, they'll probably already be available on the new Mac.

Just a suggestion. If you are near an Apple Store a vist there may be an a good thing, just to reinforce your opinion. Secondly check out John Lewis as they often offer 2 years warranty on Mac's ( provided it's the ones they stock).

I was using PCs before that Gates bloke. After years working with PCs I made the switch to Macs and my only regret was that I didn't do it sooner.

Ask yourself this. How many long-term Mac users switch to using PCs?

There, decision now made. Close the thread.

I'm taking time out from my wife's labour to say:
nooooooooooooooooooooooo!

It might be because I've been awake nearly 40 hours but I'm closing this thread (see my user title for further details)
