Managed to knock my water bottle over the other day and the lid popped open and some water went onto my keyboard (not much). I wiped it down and left it to dry. Similar thing happened a couple of years ago with a windows keyboard only it was a lot more water and it was literally pouring out when I held the keyboard up but it worked fine when died so I wasn't too worried.

Unfortunately, same can't be said of the Mac version, all sorts of weird words/letters appear when I type. A new replacement is £40 which I'm reluctant to pay so I had a look on ebay and found some cheaper 3rd party ones including a bluetooth one which is only £8.29. Has anyone used a 3rd party keyboard wth a Mac and did you experience any issues?

Oh, and ironically, I'm using the aforementioned, previously soaked, windows keyboard at the moment.
 
Looks like a Chinese version of the Mac wireless keyboard. Doesn't look expensive,my experience with items such as this are they are either rubbish or are OK. For the price I'd say it's worth a go. However the delivery of somewhere between the 31st August and 23rd September could give you a long wait if its the later. From my experience it's usually towards the end of of the expected date. But you windows is working fine so it may be OK for that wait.
 
Not tried the third party ones but used wired and wireless come up on eBay for about £25 delivered.

Didn't get that far so didn't spot that. Would rather get one sooner is this keyboard is rather rattly

Good plan. PC keyboards don't work the same even if they are almost usable for typing. I had one for a while but it had to go.
 
I have a cheap 'IWantIt' Mac BT keyboard that drives me crazy. I am constantly retyping characters that failed to work. Thing needs to go into the bin and I need to buy a decent replacement.

Save the money and buy an Apple one.
 
You might be able to clean the sticky letters by taking the keyboard apart. I spilt beer on my wired keyboard a few times. Absolutely soaking it and everything else on the table. What a narna!

Anyway I could take it apart and rinse the 3 pieces under the tap. The circuitry was all on a flexible film. And 2 plastic shells, one containing all the keys. So the beer rinsed off easily.

Some suggest using distilled water. But I prefer beer.

When I had the shop I used to clean laptop keyboards that had suffered spillages by pouring small amounts of isopropyl alcohol around the suspect keys then repeated tapping the key to work it around. I then left them to dry over night in a warm area and they were fine the next day.

Obviously it didn't work every single time and some had to have new keyboards but it's definitely worth a try first.
 
do you really need a wireless version for the iMac. if you choose wired one, that will be v3ery cheap.

Me? Nope but it's the wired one that's £45. I'm happy enough now I've found the original one though, just have to get by without the home/delete keys.

I purchased recently wired full size UK keyboard from apple store and it's £40 :)
