Help Please its driving me nuts....

I back up my images from my card reader on to my mac hd and halfway through or at any point really it disconnects the card reader and I have to unplug the card reader from the usb and replace the cf card and start uploading the remaining images and this happens over and over on the odd occasion it works fine.

any ideas how to stop this
it does not happen when uploading to a Pc

Thanks for any help or info

No help to you Tim, but I don't get this issue with my Mac. Have you tried a different USB socket?

Have you changed the USB lead? I had had exactly the same probe with my Imac, Used a different USB lead not had the probe again

Would have to buy another CF reader to do that, which I might do
but strange I don't have this problem with the same reader on a PC.

Had this problem on my Imac, changed the card reader(was an el chepo 7dayshop), no problems since. Old one works in windoz as well.

I suspect the card reader is at fault.
Most usb card readers you buy barely work and many use incorrect or unstable voltages. I found this out when I bought an Eye-Fi card. They supply you with their own sourced card reader because they say most readers are poorly made and they couldn't guarantee compatability.
I think they are made by Lexar.

Are you running the reader via a hub? This can give problems especially with other devices connected. If you are then try using a direct connection to the Mac

I've had similar problems with connecting peripherals to my Mac, but the same devices work perfectly on my PC.

I'd write it off as a Mac problem then go out and replace it with something that's specifically engineered for the Mac or Apple certified.
