Edit My Images
Yes
I'm new to Mac's and have got CS5 for editing but I've never used RAW before, I mainly shoot motorsports so I use JPG pretty much exclusively.

A couple of friends who shoot RAW have recommended Capture One but I see on here most folks use Lightroom and now Mac users have a good deal with Aperture from the Apps Store, I imagine this will be de facto soon.

If I were to change from one of the above midway through the year would it be a big upheaval?
Having never used this type of software (I'm quite methodical with filing my images on pc) I'm really not sure what's best for my needs.

Hi Paz,
PS CS5 on the mac is my preferential chose to edit my images, but I also have Aperture (to do tether shots) and now Lightroom (for slideshow exporting etc). As you can see from above, there's a function on each program that the others don't do.....

The question is, what do you want the programs to do, are you going to do tether shots, if so, CS5 and Lightroom are not for you. I'm presuming tethered shots are not high on the priority list as you mainly shoot motorsport.
If you want to export slideshows to your website, then Lightroom is your program.
If you just wish to use the best editing software out of the 3 programs mentioned, then PS CS5 is the way to go.

So before the question can be answered, what do you intend to do?

Andy

Thanks Andy and Marty for your input.

I'd like to try my hand at using RAW, I'm doing more static car shots and would like to get back into portraits and still life when time permits.
I don't upload to any sites regularly, just Flickr from time to time.

I'd be perfectly happy to use CS5 for everything but thought I'd ask since my peers keep badgering me to use RAW with something other than CS5.

Btw I have both 1D mkII N & 5D so I guess I won't have any issues with software compatibility.

I use PS CS5 to edit all my RAW files. As I said, it's one of the best programs out for pic editing

Thanks Andy.
I had a chat today with a friend who uses Aperture, he explained how it all works so I now have a better understanding of it.

I'll use CS5 for everything for now, I just need to start taking some photos and spending less time on here pondering . . .
