I've been using Mac laptops for over 20 years and have never had a problem. <touch wood>
However, it's a possible problem that I believe is acknowledged by Apple (weak cable strain relief) and they are allegedly quite amenable to replacing affected power supplies for free. It's probably worth popping into an Apple store, if there's one reasonably nearby, and having a chat.
A preventative measure recommended nearly 15 years ago (I don't remember where it originated) is to leave a small loop of cable at the power block end (so the cable emerges in a straight-ish line) before wrapping the cable around the hooks on the block - this will reduce the strain on the cable at the potential weak point where the cable exits the block. It makes sense to me and I've always followed this practice.
I did a quick t'interweb search and saw lots of sites demonstrating a convenient method of wrapping the cords, but in a way that's almost guaranteed to eventually break the cable. Here's a picture of how I do it from this article.
