Hi All,

Been a Microsoft user all my working life and from numerous comments, advice and time of year to upgrade I've purchased a new Mac Book Pro, 13" retina model.

Now, I've purchased an external hard drive purely to save all my photos too, but I have no idea have to save to it????
Windows was so easy, open HD, create fold, copy & paste

The MBP obviously is different, but I have spent the last 2 days looking for operators manuals, user guide which appear to be non existent for what i want to do,

So, anyone who can provide me with a step by step guide or a PDF I would be most grateful...... MBP I'm regretting my decision to buy it at the moment

Cheers

The Mac isn't all that different from you windows machine. You do exactly the same

Open external hard drive Select "Make New Folder " from the FILE menu . Name it ,then copy and past images to it.

Hi John

I tried this, but may have been doing it wrong!

The ext. HD shows on the desktop screen, so I opened it and looked everywhere I could to try to make a new folder but could not find the option,

Ill have a another look & if I can't find it ill take some pics of the process and post them.

Cheers

if the "file->new folder" option isnt there the drive may not be formatted for mac.

go into disk utility and reformat it as HFS+ (journalled). then try again.

YOU WILL LOSE THE EXISTING CONTENTS.

Opened it up
Tried to make a New Folder
But
No option to do so under file.....

So, tried to do it another way,
Create new folder on the desktop
Copy & pasted 10gb of photos into the folder
But
The folder won't move into the Ext.HD whether I try copy & paste or drag it, I get the same dolcic beep from the MBP as it moans in protest.

Much advice needed please, sorry for being a MBP dumbass

are you trying to use the drive to transfer some data from a PC by the way?

(you wont even get time machine options for the drive if what i think is correct and the drive has been formated on windows)

It's a brand new drive, bought specifically for the purpose of use with the MBP for photos etc,

I think you are also correct :D

I've turned on time machine and selected the Ext.HD for all backups and it formatted the (thankfully blank) HD and is currently going through a Time Machine Backup.

Ill go from there to see if I can move the photos across :bonk:

TM will move the lot across and while on subsequent backup, it moves the items not previously backed up. You need not move anything across yourself.... or need to swing that mallet too hard

SUCCESS, woohoo

Thank you all so much...

My MBP has been saved from a 6 story fall from the hotel window :)

The Ext.HD icon has changed colour and I clicked on the photo folder and dropped it into the HD icon and it transferred.

Fantastic

Simple things please simple minds ;)

All I need now is a copy of PS Elements 11 and I'm all sorted.

Thanks again all of you,

Your humble servant
