Hi guys

I know these things can be big, heavy and far from cheap. But I'd love to hear your suggestions ... converters/adapters? ... but not fisheyes. :)

I have the Panasonic 8-18mm, very impressed and not overly huge.
It's only f/2.8 at 8mm and ends up at f/4 at 18mm, but image quality is excellent

Had the Olympus 9-18mm for a short while, didn't like anything about it apart from its compact size and light weight
Has an action very similar to the Panasonic 12-32mm, didn't like that much either.

Olympus do a 12mm f/2, I have my eye on the Panasonic 12mm which is faster at f/1.4 (bigger and more expensive though)

Thanks for the info tt (y) I'll look into those.

I'm sometimes sitting at home thinking what I could do with a wide angle, but when the time comes I just want long reach. Perhaps I should play more with the m43 12mm length before getting too ambitious. Hmmmm ...

I have an Oly 9-18mm and I don't understand the comparison to the Panasonic 12-32mm. The Oly lens is collapsible but unlike the 12-32mm it does have both focus and zoom rings.

I use it mainly for architecture, interiors and transport too, sometimes take just the 8-18 out with me,

Both horrible little plastic things, can't stand that wind the lens out business either.
Find them uncomfortable to hold being so small too, just not my thing at all

I have the Oly 9-18 and quite like it. IQ is pretty good and I like the small size and low weight.

I also have the Oly 7-14 f/2.8. Optically it is better but it's much heavier and suffers from flare if the sun hits the front element, which is difficult to avoid as it is bulbous.

But the actions of the two lenses are completely different aren't they?

Build and feel are subjective but I have no problem with the Oly lens.

My point was mainly that afaik the action of the 9-18mm isn't the same as the Panasonic 12-32mm. The former is a collapsible lens but with conventional zoom and focus rings whilst the latter afaik lacks a focus ring and afaik mf has to be done with a sliding scale on the back screen. I just felt the need to clear the "an action very similar" point up as I don't think they are. They may feel plasticy but that's a different thing :D

I liked the 9-18mm when I had it, makes for a great lightweight setup and I found IQ to be pretty good. Some of my favourite landscape pics were taken with it.

I do find the whole collapsible thing a faff on though but once I'm over that it does what it's supposed to for me :D

If you don't mind zooming with your feet and manual / zone focus, the Laowa 7.5 is worth looking in to as well. Smallest and lightest of the bunch, and good quality. Here's a recent shot I took at Mesa Verde NP. One of my favourite lenses.

Laowa do a rectilinear 7.5mm F2 for M43, it's about £500 though and MF only - though that is never much of an issue with UWA lenses.

Thanks all .... for your input. I've been looking into (price mainly) the above mentioned options, and I was kinda hoping someone might throw some light on the converters/adapters. I'm sure there's good reason no one has mentioned any of those. ;)

Right .... for the time being, I'm going to stick to M43 12mm (rare for me) to see what creative results I can achieve.

Oly 12-50 f3.5 its wide, good at 50mm for portraits, does macro shots too, doesn't look or feel cheap and has internal focus and electronic focus, whats not to like.

Thanks. :)

I've got a 12-32 and a 12-60, but always want to zoom in on things, never using the wide end. Perhaps I should start using 12mm before thinking wider.

Like a lot of other wide angle lenses, closing down to around f8 on m4/3 improves the corner sharpness.
Perhaps you had a duff copy

Don't think I did, maybe expected too much coming from Fuji and using their higher quality 10-24mm
