Hello there,

I am hoping that someone will be able to help or advise me.
I have an Soligar 200mm lens with an M42 thread and the thread has some damaged which prevents connection, can anyone suggest how to recut the thread or where to obtain a M42 die or of course if it is possible to replace.
Many thanks.

Richard.

Hi. Does the thread have 3 small screws holding it on?
If yes, then I have a spare pentacon 30mm that I can take the thread mount off and post it to you. Just pay for the postage!

You could try to very carefully file the damage on the thread I suppose, it's a 1mm pitch so quite fine, you'd need steady hands. failing that it might be possible to use the mount from another lens if it will fit.

However I've just managed to buy a 200mm f3.5 for less than £20 on Ebay - is it worth all the hassle?

Hi,

Yes it has three tiny screws on the outside collar of the mount, not on the face, would that be the same?

Yep! Thats the one! PM me your address and I will post it of to you (well, next week anyway!!)

Thanks for that, my intervention is properly the last resort:), but I would like to try and repair the damage a triangular fine file may be an option.

Many thanks.

Richard.

Do you have an M42 adapter of any sort? I have in the past spent an evening with the two together and a little oil (a very little) just screwing up to the opposition and back again. Eventually, you can work your way past the damage, s-l-o-w-l-y recutting as you go.

Having said that, a soligor 200mm lens is not really worth the hassle, I have a proper 200mm you can have for the postage?

Hi Richard - will sort things over the holiday, but meanwhile, I was thinking - are you sure this is M42 and not T thread? T will screw in about 1 to 1 1/2 turns then lock up because it is M42 x 0.75mm whereas standard M42 is x1.0mm.

Arthur

I have compared the thread to another M42 and the pitch and size look the same, there does not appear to be any difference in thread size looking though a lupe.

More thinking, Soligor made T thread lenses, make sure you have not got an M42 adapter on this end of this lens that you can unscerw and remove theproblem!

Hi there,

No I have had a good look and its all integral no adapters added, just the thread buggered.

That's interesting as all my screw lenses, screw into a Practica MTL3, but only a helios 44m won't screw into my Pentax S3 (one before spotmatic).
Maybe the MTL3 thread is so worn it doesn't matter if it's a T thread lens.

Richard, can you resend your address, I deleted it by mistake as I was housekeeping my PM box!

Arthur

so... any luck Richard?

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

With all this appalling weather I have not had a chance to use the lens yet, but as soon as I get the opportunity I will and post the results.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Richard.
