Lynton's 52 for 2010 - Week 29 "Grace"

Nice work! Love the dark box. Hope you made a cake with the flour. ;)

Allan,

However, without the parcel just what is there to do the Quality Control on..............

Good news is, tomorrow pm is on, so should be able to substitute this "just in case it didn't come off" with some real QUALITY!

Dean,

No no cake made yet, just a very suspicious looking package in the kitchen.

Allan,

Yeah, can see your point it is a bit busy but hopefully it's a temporary one as I am off to do the real quality pic later this afternoon.

Anyone have a top tip for photoing a very shiny car in very bright sunshine???????

Well Sharon's friend's Dad came up with the Top Trumps and his pride and joy. Nothing symbolises quality in the motor world than a Rolls Royce.... (well not 27 years ago when this one was made.........) So I have the Spirit of Ecstasy a great injustice by chopping her bloody toes off. Grrrr, Composition idiot. No one to blame other than the ground camera interface.

C&C Welcome (Other than "you've chopped her toes off") :nono::nono::nono:

Chris,

:bat:

Plenty of other shots of it.. unfortunately though only had about a 30 min gap as he was off out, and sun was still so strong and light so harsh, the shadows made them a bit "meh" (I have plenty more excuses in my book 1001 reasons for crap photos)

Allan,

Yeah I know - hopefully she'll be OK.

I did actually use my macro lens which has an impossibly short DOF at f2.8, as I wanted just her face in sharp focus and then the rest gradually softening out.....

I think maybe distance wise its OK (other than loss of metatarsels) but maybe I could have done say an f11 or f16 as well............

Guess I'll have to go for another spin in it. Bring on "RESHOOT"

I like your RR image for quality Lynton, its certainly on theme.
I think you have done a great job on your subject in what I am sure was difficult conditions. The dof and point of focus work well too, the face is the more important aspect, the wings are still identifiable in the background. All round good job for this weeks theme, gets my  Iain

Iain,

Many thanks for the comments. I am pleased with the effect created but bloody annoyed at chopping off the toes.

Justlooking,

Thanks for comments. I too much prefer the second photo. First one was a bit of a joke pic, and a bit of a play with first attempt at a homemade darkbox and a "banker" in case the Rolls pic didn't come off.

Did I mention I live in the south of France

no, but, if you are prepared to live in France then............... ho hum............good luck!

Lovely shot of the classic quality RR symbol (shame about her toes ), other than the camera ground interface (never heard it called that before) error, it's a corker. Of the marching power shots, the colour works better. Not sure about the box... it seems one component too far, but I also get the comment about needing it for quality ...

Agree with other here - really nice shot, pity about the toes!

Phil

John & Phil,

Thanks for taking the time again to stop by and comment. Much appreciated.....

One thing I have learned this week is don't chop off toes!

POST........... hmm........ OK then.

Taken back in March I think, but to be honest didn't see the point in a 2 1/2 hour round trip to do it all again..........:lol::lol:

The Harbour at Southwold.

Sorry Lynton but this shot is not for me, OK it has posts in the shot but the view framed by the posts is leading my eye out of the picture missing all that is on both sides and only being stoppe by the tower in the background. Also the sky looks qite blown on my macbook.

Allan

Each to their own Allan, (you're not missing much on each side to be honest!)

I personally quite like it, and maybe the posts could be leading you back into the picture. The "tower" is Walberswick Church.

I was hoping to get brownie points off the Birders for the "bird on a stick" aspect of the shot....

Doesn't look blown on my calibrated monitor and the histogram on photoshop doesn't suggest any blown areas either........ can lend you a monitor calibrator....

I quite like it Lynton, although if we're being picky... that's not so much Post as Posts ... it fits the theme... I spotted the bird, but it's too small really to add much. It looks like the upper left part of the sky is a little blown on my lappy, but that's a lappy.

I quite like it Lynton, although if we're being picky... that's not so much Post as Posts

why have one when you can have a whole glut of them....

It was either that or some tasteful selective colouring of the old Victiorian post box in the village............. and we all know how well selective colouring goes down.........

Just joking about the bird, and to add further insult to all twitchers, I am calling it a "seagull" - used to get so much grief off Yorkshirer Twitcher mate at Uni, [strong yorkshire] "there is no such thing as a bloody seagull you ....... " [/strong yorkshire]

I agree with Jenny Lynton, I like the reflections too. The B&W conversion works, its on theme although a wee cheat having not taken it this week ;)
Not sure wether the sky is blown or not, this laptop isn't calibrated and if you say the histogram tells you its not then thats good enough for me:thumbs:
On theme and on time, roll on tomorrows theme, cheers Iain

I do like this image Lynton.

The composition is good and I like the "seagull" Black and white is right for this shot as well.

I'm not quite sure about all the sea dominating the edge of the frame though? Perhaps a black border to contain it?

Andy

Carl, Jenny, Iain and Andy,

Many thanks for all the comments. Much appreciated.

Andy - excellent idea about a black border (but don't let Sarah know I ever said a border is a good idea!!!)

post3.jpg

Works much better, also a 15 second dodge/burn to the sky to tone down the brighter bits.......

I like the relections, the posts on the left are very dark and lack detail (on my monitor !)

also like the "sea gull"

Really nice shot, love the detail in the sky and the reflections in the water.

Major catch-up alert from me, Lynton. Sorry I haven't visited for ages - all sorts to things (like life) getting in the way of the 52. ;)

Ingredients: I like the pov - you've made an interesting shot out of something that could hve been quite mundane. I don't much fancy the ingredients in the casserole, though! You did well to contain the highlights.

Stop: Ok, you cheated! It's still a good shot with bags of atmosphere and that abandoned, deserted look piers get after all the visitors have left.

Isolation: It fits the theme. I prefer the second version with boosted contrast. The light shining through the storm clouds makes this one. :)

Quality #1: I definitely prefer the b&w version. It looks more err .... illegal. :cuckoo: I like the reflection and there's plenty to look at to hold interest. Yep, a quality shot, and looks realistic enough for me to wonder when visiting day is.

Quality #2: I love the colours in this lady and definitely Quality. Toes? What toes? (Sorry, Lynton - I couldn't resist that!) A great take on the theme. :)

Post: Or Posts, in your case. ;) I don't usually go for symmetry, but it seems to work in this shot. An getting that seagull :rules: to sit on a post was a stroke of genius. :D The slightly edited version is the one I'd go for and the border is good.

Phew, off to give my fingers a rest.

Jean

The edit, with the subtle border, and the sorted sky is much better Lynton

Edit is much better, All in all its a great shot and fits the theme perfectly.

Something still not working for me but cant put my finger on it, maybe a tad overexposed.

Dan

Andy - excellent idea about a black border (but don't let Sarah know I ever said a border is a good idea!!!)

 Just because I haven't been online for a couple of weeks, did you really think you could sneak that in without me noticing? :rules:

 I like this a lot. Especially the edit with the BORDER.

This type of shot is done so often with a long exposure, milky water and moving clouds that it's really refreshing to see one with crisp reflections. The B&W gives a nice bit of drama to the sky and I like the seagull sat on the post. from me.

Quality works well too. Nice choice of focal point which again gives a different shot to what I'd normally expect to see.
But why did you have to mention the damn toes?
If you hadn't said anything I don't think I would have noticed and now I can't stop looking at her feet :bang:

Trying to catch up here...

Isolation - the final version is a cracking image. I love these sort of dramatic mono ones.

Quality - I like the way you have captured the various colours reflected in the silver, and the shallow DOF. Just a pity about the....

Post - lots of them, hooray! I fancied trying something like this but couldn't think of any within reach. The mono conversion brings out the textures and the graphic quality very well - and the seagull is a bonus. Really like it.

Thanks Sarah and Tracer for your comments. (I know what I am doing should Reshoot come up again!! - clue:- Complete with toes)

Ok - Week 24 - Metal. So many choices but given a restriction on props available to myself, had to discard a few of my ideas......

But here is my current choice of weapon once the ball gets onto the short grass.

scotty2.jpg

It's made of Metal, but not any old metal....... but "precision milled 303 Stainless steel.":woot::woot:
OK - I went for a grey background with the help of photoshop, but just how do you light something to get a look similar to this

Thanks. C&C welcomed as always.

Nice Scotty, mate. What modifiers did you use? Is that bare flash? The Titleist shots are done with some kind of soft light source.

Hi mate,

Got one of these for my birthday so had the putter in there, with the two halogen lights that come with it front right and front left... Then had flashgun on hotshoe (Metz 48) to bounce off the top of the little studio thingy.

Background was blue and that was a bit :gag: so converted it to B&W using Niksoft and then flattrened it out using photoshop........

Then I read that the blue background is reversible to grey. :bang::bang::bang:

It can be a nice Scotty, on another day it can be a "f###ing useless piece of American Crap...." - oh course it is entirely the Putter's (and Greenkeeper's faults) and has NOTHING to do with the person holding the Grip end of it.:lol:
