At least I didn't use the wrong shade of black!

Damn him , I told him what he could not comment on, and then he goes and finds something else...........

looking at it, yeah you may have a sort of point (not one that I am going to admit to!) but I thought, 800 longest side, 10 for each border leaves 770 so that's 385 for each image. I am guessing that 20 a border would have still left 370 a side......... and whats 15 pixels give or take on an internet forum......:shrug:

Given , I flattened and saved without saving as a jpeg I cnnot come back to and revisit, I am tempted to say :razz: but yeah, I may just have to go and redo........... If I can remember which 4 images (of the 63) I used.. just don't expect the same crops! :lol:

Or maybe tomorrow layermasks will be my new best friend!!!

Hi Lynton - I thought I was the first to submit for 'quad' until I saw your thread!

Lovely picture & great take on the theme - I think I prefer the thinner borders, but there's not a lot in it.

Two very "the same but different" quads. Think I prefer the snow drops - very stylish looking .. although I think the coloured one is also very well presented.

really must get a bigger screen .. I cant see all of either picture all at once:(
 
Your first snowdrop image gets my vote Lynton:thumbs:
The smaller borders are easier on the eye IMHO.
This image is closely followed by the colour image, this really works in being so vivid.
I see you have fallen into the trap of posting multiple images, like I have previously. If you are not careful your 52 becomes a 104:D
Well done, a successful week for you. Roll on tonight and next weeks theme.

I agree with Iain that I prefer the first snowdrop image.

The colours in the second one are good but I find having the same flower image is just a tad boring.
 
Lynton the snowdrop quad is a brilliant idea, being picky, the whites on a couple of the flowers look a little blown, in particular on the lower right. I really like the bright vivid colours of the colour version, very pop art sort of thing...

Shoot - argh!!! Why couldn't this have been drawn in one of the first 4 weeks - I have the perfect idea for this one, though the shooting season is over......

Thought I was going to struggle and then remembered something that I often do when playing with (teasing) the cat with a laser pen, and it drives Sharon mad! :lol:

Izzy has "suffered" a lot (since re-homing her in Sep 09) being anything from a willing to unwilling model (but bribed easily with strategically placed Whisker's treats,in front of tripod and camera) in my quest for better photography, both on here and on my AE photography course..... So far, I have beaten her at chess, (convincingly - cats are crap at chess!) and she has starred in a multiple exposure..., along with several pics of her sleeping / ripping toy mice to shreads... Who knows what the remaining weeks of the 52 will subject her to.

Glad you like. I had a perfect idea then realised the shooting seasons were all wrong then had a brainwave yesterday ( it happens every now and again)

Izzy is completely house trained....will be in the garden all day, nothing then come indoors to the litter tray for a crap! Bloody moggy!!!
 
Missed your quad shot sorry Lynton . . . but with the advantage that I got to see the colour one!

Liked the Snowdrops, simple and quite classy in B&W but I LOVE the psychedelic Chrysanths. For me this is stronger because all 4 quadrants are the same image - and a great image it is . . . sharp and crisp and I really love the pop art feel to it :clap:

Shoot : Poor Izzy.
She's a cutie though, so I hope you get to torture her a bit more through the rest of the 52.
Beautiful focus on the eyes and the inclusion of the laser pen is spot on. The white's looking a bit blown on the LHS of her face though.
 
interesting idea for shoot. Glad to hear Izzy was none the worse for being your model.

Many thanks - I feel at times though I am going too much to the B&W theme, but for some reason, I often prefer a B&W to colour.......... "weird hey?" or either I want to overcook the colours.......

@ "Justlooking" - thanks, and she is 100% alive and well, no puddycats were harmed in that shot, , though I think she is dreading when "VELCRO" gets picked......:lol:

I much prefer this one, mate. Why? The snowdrops are nice, but the angle for most of them is too high for me. flowers tend to work better if you get right down on their level.

Thanks for all your comments so far - very encouraging and certainly helping me improve my photography. Some weeks are certainly easier than others. Composition has certainly got better (I think!)

Here's week 15 - Single, and a lone dog walker on the beach. Bit of an odd crop but wanted to emphasize the emptiness of it!

great take on the theme, and well done for getting in so quick!
i think it would have more impact if the person was slightly larger but it still a very stricking scene. Also, im sure the rules on panoramics are 1024px on the long side so id take advantage of that ;)

lovely colours in the sand. Certainly portrays the empty beach very well. I think I would like the man just a wee bit bigger.
 
Damn . . . that looks like a real stunner. Just a shame that we're stuck with such a small version.

I love the quirky crop and it looks like there's some fantastic detail in the sand and sky.
I see what others are saying about the man looking too small, but I think that's just due to the size we're viewing at. I reckon in a full size version the sense of perspective would be spot on - I think cropping in more on that one area would lose too much of the deserted feel.
 
Liking your single image a lot Lynton. I like the moody sky, the colours in the sand and it's a great composition too. You're limited in how big you can post an image on here but I'm with Sarah on the point of a crop would lose some of the emptiness and perspective of your image.
I think it is easy to see whats going on in the image, it doesn't need any more detail in the person walking the dog. Well done iain
 
liking the single image. I think as a full size image it would work better but it still works really well and would make a stunning canvas

Many thanks for your comments regarding the Single picture..... I am tempted to go to a canvas with this one, also the black and white beach huts I posted up the other day, going to need more walls in the house soon!!! Anyone know of a good reasonable priced company who can print to canvas at odd sized frames?
 
heh heh.. poor kitty.. I have 3 and only one of them is a 'willing' model.. great shot, its hard to take good photos of B+W cats.. must get a laser pen :naughty:

'single' is stunning.. love the crop, the feeling of isolation.. the colours and tones in the sand and the sky detail is awesome.. would look fabulous on a wall

Quad: The colour version is amazing. Far superior to the B&W offering. Although I do like snowdrops... I'm also in a minority after reading the further comments, so I'll shut up now :)

Shoot: Heh. I saw the photo and thought that the red dot looked like a laser sight, then read the explanation. Shoot the cat!!
It's a well composed shot with some great detail, but the left eye (cat's right eye) looks a little blown. Minor pont though.

Single is lovely. Did you crop down, or is it a multiple shot panorama? Reason I ask is that it would look great blown up, but if you cropped right down, I guess the detail would not be there.

Either way, I like the sense of isolation and atmosphere. Very nice shot, and for me, one of your best. Love that angry grey sky and the shades in the sand.

As to recommending a canvas company. The folks I used were cheap, and did a custom size, but the quality was utter rubbish. Wouldn't reccommend them at all. All I can say is you pay for what you get. Peanuts = monkeys.

I thought a thin crop would work well for the single theme, to make everything seem more isolated and alone then it really was..... wish i had the full proper panoramic, to print it off. Will ask a couple of canvas companies about quality etc.....


OK, so to this week..... Stare. Thought this one would be easy and want to get in early with The Angry Stare Man, caught in Norwich today! Only had the 17-70 with me, so had to get in close!

Love your single shot Lynton, for me the first crop is the better one and a wonderful example of single. For stare you have captured some fantastic detail there. He does look pretty angry, i bet he's a big softie really.
 
Hi Lynton, I'm still looking at people's Single piccies, and since I have no ideas what to do for Stare, I've just scrolled over it very quickly!

Single: I think the comments about the size we're viewing it are relevant and it makes is a little difficult to tell how it really looks. The panoramic crop definitely highlights the emptyness of the beach and the drama of the sky. However, if you get it made into a canvas it might be better at a less extreme ratio of length to height. Think how it will look on a wall when viewed from the other side of the room, and how stable the horizontal stretch bars will be with so little height. Have you tried a ratio of, say 5:2?

It's definitely one for display - let us know how it goes. :)

Single as a crop/pana is great, although think it may of been said the dog walker a little closer would of been nice, but none the less amazing pic.

Stare has a agressive feel and look. sweet.
 
Single is a great shot, it looks truly empty and works real well in the Pano crop. (Based on the rules in this months photo comp, a Pano shot can be a cropped normal and apparently that's allowed to be at full pano size 1000px on the longest and 500px I think, on the other).

Stare, that is a mean looking stare, moody and aggresive, I think the glasses help emphasize that to. :thumbs:

Thanks. He can put on a bit of a grump when he needs to. THere was a bit of processing on there, hoping to make him look pretty mean and moody. Think the stubble adds to the rough look!

By first one do you mean the extreme letterbox crop or the original I posted up yesterday? Doesn't matter but just curious..... Different people prefer different things! :lol: Mark is a 6ft 4 softie, but was quite amusing the other week in Norwich watching some little 5' 6" 8 stone dripping wet chav offer him outside for a fight. (All Mark wanted was his beer which I was buying!) and Chav thought he was queue pushing! He got a stare not too dissimilar to that one posted up!

Always good to hear your thoughts. Good points regarding the canvas size and shape. Will have a play with different ratio's before I take the plunge. Expect a thread on here saying "What size/ratio do I go for", then getting 20 responses, 5 voting for each size..... :shrug: Look forward to your views on "Stare" when you're done and dusted for the week!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Yeah I am mixed with the dog walker. Inconsiderate b****r being so far away! Have printed it off as an A4 test and it looks better. I guess the 800 pixel shortest size, makes him look a lot smaller..........
