Right, the wife has pretty much outgrown her casio exilim compact camera and is becoming a bit disappointed with some of the pics it is producing.

I have suggested that she gets a bit more into photography which to my shock she agreed with.

I have narrowed it down to the above 2 as they fall in the sub £150 bracket second hand. If she doesn't like it and decides she wants something easier and simpler again I can either sell on or more likely I have a nice back-up / easy to carry second camera! Win win for me!!

I would appreciate anyone who has either giving their opinion or anyone who has made the same choice in the past.

I'll also consider any other cameras round the £150 mark +/- £50 which may be considerably better than the G7 or LX2.

All help much appreciated!

Hello,

I have an LX2 and I'm quite happy with it. You can set it to shoot in 16:9, 3:2 or 4:3 ratio, I leave mine in 16:9. It has a decent zoom range and image stabilisation, it can shoot JPEG or JPEG+RAW, take movies and allows manual control.

There's a review here...

Hi, thanks for the link, had read the G7 review on there but not the LX2 one.

The review comments on the ISO noise issue, I know the reviews have to be pretty critical but do you notice it much on a day to day basis. We'll be using the camera indoors and out with the built in flash where needed...?

Cheers

I use mine mostly on ISO 100 / 200 but I think that 400 is ok. I'm happy with the performance considering that really it's just a high end compact.

Anyone else got one or even a g9 or Lx3?

Iv got the LX3 and really happy with it. Only just used it in anger in the last week whilst on training in the highlands. Iso isn't that great so i tend to keep it below iso 200 to keep images clean. Really simple to use. A sample:

I'd be more than happy with images like that!! ^^

Will have to look into the lx3 possibly too then....

Hmmm, there doesn't seem to be much reason to go above the G7 in that series then. Thanks for the help guys. Going to try and get my hands on both of them with the wife so she can see which she prefers.

I suspect with similar qualities it may boil down to whichever she prefers the look and handling of! I may suggest we get a G7 AND a LX2 and whichever she doesn't want can stay in my bag as a backup cam!! Don't think I'll get that one past her indoors!!
