Just reading, that we have a Lunar Eclipse this Wednesday June 15th starts at 17:24 until 23:00, there is supposed to be a total eclipse that lasts about 100mins turning the moon red :) we have only had 3 total Lunar Eclipses in the last 100 years.

Not sure if this has already been posted, just thought I give people the heads up if interested.

Indeed! The moon rises at about 9.20 and will be in total eclipse but I doubt you will see much due to the twilight sky. At about 10pm the moon should start returning from the Earth shadow and will take about one hour, so could be worth watching.

Just pulled a map of the best locations in the UK to see it, seems the south of the country has the best view. Rises here on Wednesday at 9.07pm total eclipse will be 9.13pm - 10.03pm.

As you say worth a look just in case :)

its nights like this im glad i work nightshift :) and can ...erm ..head outside for an hour or two unhindered :)

As described in the wiki link TOTAL lunar eclipse's are less often than a lunar eclipse. The comment about 3 times in the last hundred years is about the length of the eclipse of 100mins normally it does not last this long, sorry if I didnt explain it properly. hense the link

I'm in the south west and am hoping to get out although the weather forecast isn't great for here tomorrow.

just checked yr.no and yeah it looks wet. The weather here is a bit unpredictable, so we might get a clear spot

Thanks for the "heads up" Baden.

Tomorrow's forecast:-

It will be cool in Goole,
Dry in Wye,
and, if you live in Lissingdown, take an umbrella.

Unfortunately I live in Lissingdown.

Cheers for the post. I'm down in cornwall on Hols so might be able to get something if the weather doesn't suck much.

there's a bit of a red tinge to the sky tonight in west london, which contrasts with the blue of the last of the daylight through a loverly breakup of clouds... but as usual the flat foreground of suburban houses just ruins its photographic potential... can we import some Landscape from the North please...

Hoping it might clear up a bit here in time, raining at the moment and very overcast.

We have cloud here that does not look like it will shift :(

Cloudy here in Guernsey so doubt i will see anything, will keep looking though

Same sod weather in Manchester :-)..what a shame..get a clear view of the moon from the comfort of my living room french windows..!!

Anyone know how I can work out how high in the sky it will be at a certain time?

Edit, found it. Using 'The Photographer's Ephemeris.'

just out of curiosity what settings will you be using?

I'd go 1/125th at f/8, 100 ISO as a starting point and adjust as necessary. The moon is a lot brighter than you think. Use manual focus and a solid tripod.

Very cloudy up here in Sunderland. The only chance I've got of seeing it is on News24!

Cloudy here but it's breaking up after heavy rain revealing blue sky.....

clear skys in my part of Argyll, got tripod set up but not got a lens to do it justice :shake: , telescope set up as well so I'll get a good view if not a good shot.

Sky just clearing here in the south, so out for a walk & fingers crossed
