Hi, I looking for some advice on the Pocket Bouncer.

My main area of interest is in mountain bike action photos - the Lumiquest Pocket Bouncer looks like a good product to be able to spread the light and make it softer.

I'm typically using the flash in manual both for power and zoom.

Therefore, if I can get a slightly wider spread of focused light using say a little more power , then this might seem to be a better option, than an umbrella outside.

Using the flash at say 50mm with no diffuser vs 50mm with a Pocket Bouncer (should) give a softer light which is not spread out.

Has anyone used this for out door moving photography?

Appreciate any advice / comments.

Pocket Bouncer softens the light because it makes the light source larger. It makes a useful difference at close range, but at any distance the size is reduced relative to the subject and the benefit is reduced. So it depends how close you shoot.

The light spread is roughly equal to a 28mm lens on full frame. In reality you'll proably be 1-1.5 stops down on direct flash in terms of power.

You might be better off with a mini-softbox in terms of quality of light. The usual problem with all these things outside is you can run short of power.

Thanks Richard, I'll have a look at the mini soft box.

I'm using a Quantum Turbo 2 x 2 external battery pack now, so even if the modifier cost me a stop (say from 1/4 to 1/2) then it wouldn't be too bad.

Recycle time is quite quick with the Quantum, will have a look at options.

Getting a bigger (wider) spread of light together with a less harsh light is my main aim.

Yes, I'd seen it through a link on Strobist's I think.

Impressive, and obviously this guy has spent alot of thinking time in getting this set up.

I shudder to think of the total cost though - but excellent ingenuity.
