Edit My Images
Yes
I've had a trawl around the internet and this appears to be flavour of the month for blending images or lifting shadows in a more natural way. Is anyone using this technique on here and care to share some tips or input on whether it's as good as some sites suggest.

Had a quick view of this rather complicated method on YouTube and it struck me that the result is more or less the same as you would get with HDR software before you turned on tone mapping.

If it is then using HDR software might be a quicker way of achieving the same effect.

Weirdly I've been looking at this tonight too. Not sure what's triggered it! I just installed the Jimmy McIntyre from Through Strange Lenses actions for CS5 and they do look very handy. they automatically create the masks for you.

The thing I've learnt with LMs is that you have total control. I processed my photo in HDR for comparison. It wasn't pretty

Hi, Started to use Luminosity Masks now rather than HDR software. Maybe takes a little longer to get to final image doing it yourself against HDR software but the final results IMO are a lot better. No expert at it and watching a lot of tutorials from both the web and also purchased a couple of sytems to make Luminosity masks a lot quicker.
The first one I purchased came out a while ago and the whole package I thought a little expensive but after watching the tutorials that came with it worth the money.
The second was only released a while back and not so many tutorials but the panel does the same job.
Yes you can get free panels and tutorials but thought these guys put a lot of work into Luminosity Masking and deserved some reward.

Has anyone tried HDR using CC's "complete toning in Adobe Camera Raw" when using file/automate/Merge to HDR Pro? It's awesome.. images do NOT look like HDR images at all.. in fact... you get results almost identical to luminosity masking. Not a hint of cheesiness anywhere. The only difference is you can't edit the exact merging like you can with a luminance mask... but results are so good.. you rarely have to.

I have a tutorial here.... Read it.. PROPERLY.... don't skip anything, or you may miss some very important steps.
