I know this has been discussed before but an update is always welcome.

My LR sub runs out in February and Amazon are not doing the cheap renewals anymore, so I'm currently looking at Luminar Neo as a one-off purchase. I really don't see me needing any on-going updates since I mostly use LR for cropping and exposure adjustments and precious little else. I downloaded it months ago but never got round to looking at it, and now it has installed something on my PC somewhere which is stopping me getting another free trial so I'm just after an opinion of it from someone who has used it for some time.

Or alternatively, how can I clear my PC of any reference to LN so I can try another free trial?

I have just found something called Darktable; anyone used that?

Affinity photo has just become free unless you need the AI aspect side.

Affinty would be your answer, it is not quite as intuitive as Infinity Photo (Mainly the layout and menu arrangement), but almost the same, and lot better than others.
I tried Luminar and uninstalled it quite quickly
 
Affinity is more like PS while Neo is very AI based and a lot easier to do quick fixes and processes. With my limited ability anyway.
 
I purchased a lifetime license to Neo earlier in the year after trying it out for 12 months, you still get all the updates with the lifetime license, I've just installed quite a big upgrade, it's the only program I use now,and does everything I need.
 
Good info. I did download DxOPhoto last night for their 30-day free trial and it looks interesting on first impression.

I'll look at Affinity as I really don't need AI.

Luminar Neo, like most other free trials, puts multiple entries into the Windows registry (assuming you're running Windoze) one of which is used to define if you've run a trial before. To start with you will need to uninstall LN and then run Regedit and do a search for Luminar, removing all references to the application. Reinstalling LN after a re-boot of your computer should give you the choice of running the trial again.

Well, I looked at Luminar on another PC, I've looked at DxO photolab, plus others, and while I'm sure they do an excellent job, every time I start to learn one, I just get a feeling of 'I just can't be bothered'. If Adobe don't do a price reduction on Amazon on Black Friday, I think I'll just end up renewing at the standard price. I'm just too old to start learning a new package now and at my age, I can't be sure I'd get my money's worth if I forked out for a lifetime standalone package :)

Well, you would get more than your moneys worth with Affinity :) You pay nothing and get something good :)

And for "I mostly use LR for cropping and exposure adjustments and precious little else." it is very straight forward to use.

If you don't need any more than that, IrfanView is also free and excellent for quick simple adjustments and cropping etc.

It does seem a pity to pay so much for so little.

If you need photo management, Digikam is good and free, as is Faststone Image Viewer, though Faststone does not have advanced features.

As for learning, Youtube has some excellent easy to follow tutorials, usually just a few minutes long on specific operations. (though youtube has made some recent changes with adverts that make it more of a frustration than a useful resource)

Thank you Sang. I suppose I should try again.
I've been using Faststone for initial views for a long time now, ever since I found I couldn't stop Photos from adjusting photos on display (perhaps there is a way, I just changed to Faststone instead, it was easier).
 
Yes, IrfanView is a handy program. I use it to store photos and initial edits.

It's great.

It's free !!
 
I mostly use Irfanview for reducing files when a website has size restrictions, I've never really looked into anything else it can do.
