LR5 - Where do my photos keep going?

I am working in the book module on LR5 and have created a catalogue of 1660 photos, several hundred of which I have flagged. On the book, when I am viewing the "whole book" view the entire catalogue is there however when I zoom in to a single page, it reverts to the photograph already on the page and the filmstrip at the bottom then only includes a select bunch of photographs - seemingly random as some are used in the book and some are not. It is then a roundabout way of flicking into library and back into book view to get to the "missing" photographs. It is driving me mad this morning so any help is much appreciated.

Also, LR5 appears to have "sorted" the filmstrip so the flagged photos are at the end as opposed to in chronological order. Any idea how to change this back?

If you go into grid view there is a choice under the grid to change the order you see your images. You may have chosen to order by "Pick":
