Hi all

Anyone know under what circumstances or why when i go to set the black point and hold the option key down the image turns to white and no matter how far i move the slider a black point still doesnt appear?

Could it be to do with the fact that the tone curve has been adjusted and moved so that there are literally NO blacks in the picture?

bit baffled...

Have you tried it on an image you know has black in it? Is it a high key type of picture?

Just to check, you are sliding the black slider to the left? Apologies if you are, but had to check :D

Otherwise, as per what Wayne has suggested above.

yep, on a normal image it works. however the image i am using has had a preset applied which is a replichrome film type preset (Fuji 400H).

The only thing i can think of is when i look at the tone curve the blacks end is lifted a little. Would this prevent there being any true blacks in the image.

I need to have another look at the profiles used as well just in case they are having an impact.

So are you just editing Jpegs? Do you have the RAW files without any film presets applied?

If the tone curve has the blacks lifted up then no you won't be able to get pure black. Drop the very end of the blacks down to the bottom of the tone curve (where it is by default) and you'll get your pure blacks.

Editing RAW files.

i did wonder if that would be it. The Fuji preset has the shadows lifted somewhat, but even so, having NO blacks has surprised me. I realy like the fuji 400 look but i also like to have pure blacks so will have to tweak the preset i think.

Thanks all

I didnt think the fuji presets would be on the RAW files...just on the jpegs
