I am currently testing LR4 and PSE especially how they interact with each other.

I have had some problems with the automatic link between the 2 program's, but have set it up manually.

My question is more about the file type.

What file type is normal to go into PSE and what comes back?

I am starting with a DNG file

I import NEF's to Lightroom then develop, after editing that i right click 'edit in photoshop' and that takes a Tiff file into photoshop for further editing. But i don't think you can return it back to Lightroom (save as jpg) it only keeps the NEF (raw) + Tiff.
does this help at all ?
 
I think that helps, I could only get a Tiff back, I was assuming that a DNG would come back.

I suppose you need to make sure that all LR4 adjustments are finished before going to PSE
 
Yeah, you can always go back to the Tiff (develop history intact), but lately i'm wondering if they are worth keeeping, huge 50+mb file :thinking:
 
You can take a copy of the original in as a .PSD file and it will return the same edited .PSD file with layers intact. That can make it easy to re-edit the file. I do it this way then delete the .NEF and keep the .PSD.
