I was going through some test shots earlier and noticed something a bit odd in one of them - there was a lot of CA on some of the edges despite me having Remove Chromatic Aberration checked by default. Toggling back and forth it appears that LR is removing the CA from one small area but ignoring another area and adding a lot of it to a third area which didn't have any CA to start with.

I'd assumed this was something that was possible if the CA correction was applied to an edge that didn't have any CA but I've never seen it before and I can't find evidence of it in any other shots I have so I wanted to check if anyone else has encountered this.

Have you tried clicking the area with the CA with the eyedropper.

I've found I can't always remove it. Or I can go too far and it appears in other areas

Only lateral CA will be removed by LR.. longitudinal will not. For that you need to use the de-fringe/eyedropper tools.
