Hi All,

Having recently got hold of a Canon 24-105 4 L IS, and updated to LR4.3 I have noticed that LR has lots of different lens correction profiles, and was just wondering if you guys use them at all?

I imagine these are slightly generic, as no two lenses are exactly the same, but from my initial impressions, this looks like it could be quite useful!

Any tips/tricks?

Thanks

Hugh

(Sorry if this has already been discussed, search wasnt working for me)

I set it as a profile and do this lens correction profile on import.

rarely any issue, lines always looks straight and feels right.

only issue was some times the very edge has been cut off by the correction for my 17-40 f4, but that's expected I suppose. the non 100% viewfinder helps here :D

OK, so on that note, is there anything else that you do as standard on import? I am finding I am repeating quite a few actions per raw file post import.

first of all, I'm only a hobbyist, no better than you. Just saying how I do it, so take it with a pinch of salt until professionals come along.

On import, I do:
-1:1 render
-lens correction
-slight chromatic abbreviation correction
-carbon copy RAW files to my NAS
>wish there's an auto noise-reduction plugin that applies noise reduction based on ISO.
(eg. 0 at up to 800, 10 for 1600, 20 for 3200 and 40 for 6400).

then when editing, just work my way down the panel on the right.

You can set default NR (and in fact all defaults) on a per camera and ISO basis. It's in the LR settings (edit->preferences->presets)

it just says make defaults specific to camera ISO setting. how do I set the defaults?

Go to the 'Develop' module, get everything set up as you want it, hold the 'Alt' key and watch the button in the bottom right change from 'Reset' to 'Set Default'. Click that button and away ye go.

thanks! I'll give that a try. :D

When you create the import profile, do you need a separate profile for each lens, or will it determine which lens was used and apply the correct lens profile?
