Hi,

Just installed a new copy of LR4 and it's prompting me to upgrade the LR3 catalog file - is it safe to do this ?

I'd read it's safer to keep my old work in LR3 and use LR4 for new work, what's the concensus ?

Upgrade. You can always use the LR3 settings if you need to (use Process 2010 in the Camera Calibration tab if you need to be 100% LR3 compatible...)

Upgrade, but save a copy of your LR3 catalogue, just in case something goes wrong.

You need to upgrade the catalog. The database LR4 uses has additional fields and needs to work with a new database structure so it needs to upgrade. If you don't upgrade LR4 wont work with a LR3 database.

You should be backing up your database anyway, just in case anything goes wrong with any version of Lightroom.

To be clear, LR4 makes new catalogue from your older LR3 one, but leaves the LR3 intact and unharmed. Both catalogues will be on your hard drives.

Anthony.
