I am a new'ish user of lR4 and one of my ways of doing a 'quick' edit is to press the auto button then tweak the sliders, etc from that starting point. I have been noticing lots of my shots, from various cameras, always seem to be 'auto'd' down by -1 or thereabouts. So as part of my tweaking I have been pushing this up more.

However I am starting to wonder if it is not LR but the brightness which my laptop is set at? So a new problem for me is how to know where to set the brightness on my laptop because if, in LR, I push it up too far that'll be wrong

I never use the auto generally, though the few times I have tried it in LR4 it has done the same, and that is viewed on a fully calibrated mac screen, sooo....

Perhaps post a couple of example of pre & post and lets see how they look to us?

Thanks Yv - I know one of my compromises is working on a laptop but I may take a look on my desktop which is getting dust covered upstairs.

But can I find my pre shots as my methods are very 'bull in a china shop'. Once twiddled with I bin 'em

Just moved onto a batch taken with yet another camera and all showing over by +1

Perhaps I do have my brightness set about OK and that is just the way it is.
