simple!!!!! Lightroom 3 verses photoshop cs5......

Which do you use and why?

I will start...I use photoshop....because i find it handy to edit stuff.....(sad reason but true :cuckoo:)

PS for pp and LR for cataloguing

They're different tools for different jobs, so it's not really an opposition.

LR for cataloguing and basic PP and PS for the more complex edits.

Got both Education versions CS5 and LR3 but haven't installed LR3 yet.

If you shoot in RAW then I would certainly use LR3.

It is great for "development" and cataloging. It uses 16 bit and will save/open 16 bit TIFF files into Photoshop ready for Post Processing.

In essence you only really need these two applications, in my humble opinion

Its just made more difficult to see when Adobe started adding basic editing functions to LR. You probably could just use LR, but I still stick to catalog in LR, edit in PS.

LR3 btw is excellent, much faster at nearly everything compared to LR2.

Same as the others..LR3 for cataloguing and quick edits and CS5 for heavy duty stuff.
Spoiled by CS5 now though. I have CS4 at work and feel like I am hampered a bit. Find myself wanting to take work home to do on my CS5 machine! Love the content aware fill stuff!

I use both ... although it's LR1 and CS3 for me ... I keep hearing great stuff about LR2 & CS5 so an upgrade is in order, if only it wasn't soooooo expensive!

Forget LR2, LR3 is where its at! Worth the money...

I use Lightroom 99 percent of the time, I don't usually do much more PP than a crop and some levels and exposure. Its the best piece of software i use. In terms of photo management its excellent, I'd be useless organising all my photos myself.

If it's a choice of one or the other as that's all you can afford at the minute then get LR3 as it will help you with your overall workflow and you can still do a lot of editing. You can then get CS5 later, if you find that you need it.

If money's not a problem then get both.

I use LR2 (soon to be LR3) most of the time but then I can't be bothered with too much post-processing. I twin LR with PSE8 and it's a good combo. I really don't think I would use CS5 enough to justify the expense.
